Default Transmission leak 2004 XJ

Serviced my transmission due to a leak that I diagnosed as a leaking pan/gasket. No oil leaking from rear output seal. The service proved challenging and semi rewarding. Once completed, all residual fluid cleaned from area and a 10 mile test drive, I parked the vehicle and placed a piece of cardboard under the vehicle overnight. Unfortunately for me, it is still leaking somewhere near where I thought the original leak was located at the rear of the trans pan.

Any ideas, opinions would be appreciated. I was unable to have the convenience of having the vehicle on a rack for this repair.

Thanks in advance.

Did you replace the sleeve at the rear of the transmission? They are prone to leak.

Sleeve? aka...Output shaft bushing? There is no oil leaking from the rear output seal

Should have looked at the link before responding
That is the exact area the fluid appears to be leaking from. Is this a Dealer only part?

There is a plug and socket connection at the rear of the box for the Transmission Control Unit that is inside the transmission. This is sealed with a rubber sleeve and this has proved unsatisfactory on earlier models so needs replacing if it starts leaking. Later seals are claimed to be better, and you should get the improved when you buy the replacement. However, it's not OK to just replace this sleeve, you need to check the pins in the socket are not contaminated with oil, nor the plug pin housings. If they are dirty they need cleaning out before reassembly. An aerosol of cleaner will normally clean and blast out the dirt.

Much thanks to both of you. Learned a couple of things already. First and foremost....read and view everything before responding.
Ordering the sleeve today from CTSC.

Yes, I saw that. Lol. More oil at $18 each but you live and learn.
Thanks!

At least you can consider this a transmission flush and not just a partial fluid change.

As Eric Idle said... "Always look on the bright side of life."

Okay, spent a coupe of hours yesterday servicing the transmission again. This time it included changing out the electrical connector sleeve. SUCCESS!! No more leak.
Thanks for the help!

One question, what is the small two wire square/rectangular sensor bolted to the right rear of the transmission case near the trans filler plug?
