Default Windscreen Wiper Linkage Failure

Dear Forum,
Today my driver's side (LHD) Wiper Blade and Arm decided to wedge itself against the outside edge of my windscreen and stay there! I was just about to curse the fact that this had to happen when it was raining and I stopped myself to reflect that it rains very seldom here in Dubai, so it was probably waiting for heavy rain in order to fail? Obviously the drive home was interesting!
I can only assume that the linkage has become disconnected.
I have tried several searches.....
Please, has anyone else experienced this and if so, what needs to be done?
I am already assuming it is both wiper arms off, followed by the Cowl Vent Screen?
What then, please?

Experienced the same thing. You just need to connect small ball joint back on one auxiliary arm. It will be obvious which arm and which place when you reach there.

Thanks Alex.
Will I be able to get away with jamming my Cowl Vent Screen up above my Bonnet Torsion Struts instead of complete (and worrying) removal and do you think that 'Small Ball Joint' needs replacing so that I do not have to do this again?

Alex, if you're too busy to reply, I guess I'll find out anyway!

Incidentally, many years ago I was a frequent visitor to Saint Pete's from the UK on business and I loved the place.....!

Regards,
Ray

Try first just pulling of coil vent and see if it is enough) Ball joint is not replaceable its just popped off, you just need to pop disconnected arm end back in) Good luck!

PS I've been to Dubai as well and have friends living there. Cannot imagine how to live in such a hot climate for a whole year). I was told that half of a year you spend completely indoor like on Mars. Is it true?

Okay, will do...
Yes, no point going outside in Dubai unless you have to, from the end of May, June, July and August....Plus a bit of September; however, beautiful in November, December, January, February, March and April!

Alex,
I got a chance to look at my wipers this morning and blow me down if wasn't simply that the nut had come loose and had nothing to do with the linkage!
Now, I know that I had previously tightened that nut to the 17 Nm stated in the Workshop Manual?

Do you think it a good idea for me to put a locking washer under those nuts? Would it cause any problems in your opinion?

First thing, a question.
Did you tighten the nut arm on?
Not one on any i have seen.
To answer your question, about the lock washer.
I do know, mine seemed on way too tight.
Or so i thought, when i first took them off.
Water corrosion build up was part of this.
Snugged them both what seemed tight enough.
After having removed them for something.
Never needed a puller to remove wiper arms before
Was driving, when a mist type rain started.
Wiper on pass side just stopped working.
Had to re tighten it, this time with a drop or two of oil first, seemed to help..
Make sure the splines align, snug it down.
So far so good, just seems to be a snugger fit than others

Make sure the wiper is up when torquing the nut, to ensure it goes on square and splines are in.

Thanks Mark,
Unfortunately I have already fixed them.
When I removed them (some time ago) they were in the Park position and I marked both sides of the 'rings' and the center of the splined studs they fit over, plus the wiper blades positions on the screen. I assumed that since they were splined correctly in Park and they were replaced when in identical positions with all my marks lined up correctly, all would be well?
Well obviously not; however, although I am convinced that at the time I would have torqued them down to 17 Nm, maybe I forgot?
