x350 "new" car problems
Hi. just bough xj6 2003 3.0 petrol. Fantastic car, love it but : Front lower suspension arms need to be changed (whole arm or bush only (one? big one?)), door opening.... open close open close again and again, battery out of range error. Battery charging 15.1V when start , then 13.3 ... all wrong (oil is leaking - bad alternator? ground points? new battery supplied ) Pooooor driver side heating (pump? controle valve? or both?) I know a lot of questions but maybe you had similar problems.
Regards Rob

- Front lower wishbone is made up of two arms, the "straight" arm and the front "banana" arm. Both have trunnion bushes that can be replaced separately. Check also the lower bushes on each air spring unit. These start to wear out at about 35k miles.
- Door close then immediately opening again means one of the latches has failed. When you lock, look to see which one immediately unlocks. I had this with my my first X350, a 2003. The latches are made in Germany of all places !
- Can't answer your charging problem, you need a competent autoelectrician, or a Jaguar specialist.
- Oil leak could be the sump gasket, the V6 3 litre is notorious for this. It's a bit expensive in labour due to need to move stuff out of the way
- Poor driver side heating is an indication the heater matrix is blocked up. You can try flushing, but you'll probably need a new one. It is quite easy to replace, funnily enough. There is no separate heater pump that there is on the V8s.
I expect you'll find quite a lot more to do, unless the previous owner was meticulous about servicing and maintenance.

Berkshire Jaguar components also do Lemförder parts, I had some a few months ago from them, take a look at their website, they do a cheaper brand as well , I also use Autodoc for Jaguar and Mercedes parts and have been very happy but their postage takes longer , Berkshire Jaguar are just 20 minutes up the road from me as well.
shock bushings is an exclusively european issue. testers throw a fit because they think move too easily, they’re designed to wiggle like a ball joint. would my area of least concern
if everything is original track rod end will have the boots blown out guaranteed. after 20 years the rear lower control arms are smoked, uppers might still have life in them. will need rear toe adjusters and sway bar links as well

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I mean the "banana" arm. I decided to replace to the Lemförder bushes at this moment instead of the entire arms. I know that this is not the best solution, but £ 40 instead of £ 210 (autodoc) with a view for further large expenses, it is the only option for now.
The problem is opening. I open, Jag closes. I checked all the latches (except the trunk) and cleaned it. Interestingly, after finishing the work (all 4 times), everything works for a while, then it returns to the old routine.
Yes it looks like sump gasket, I already bought Reinz one.
As for the bad charging of the battery, I hope it's no grounding or a voltage regulator, because the alternator is wet with oil. We'll see.
Heating...good to know there is no pump so controle valve or heater matrix. I heard flush didn't help much in many cases. I have to read about matrix and how to remove it. Anyway thank you for your help, I really appreciate that
Kind regards Rob

Heater matrix is surprisingly easy compared to some cars. You have to remove (1) glovebox, then (2) heater fan and control unit, after which the end of the matrix can be seen with its connecting pipes. On my X358, the main agent did the job, and the labour wasn't much, (although £100/hr), but a fitting kit was on the invoice with cost almost the same as the matrix itself. I suspect you can get away without this, but then you have the risk of leaks. Main agents obviously don't take risks and follow Jaguar instructions anyway, which includes the labour times. Don't let anybody try to fool you that the whole dash has to come out; it doesn't !!

As in previous posts, there is a struggle with opening, closing, opening, closing ... doors. My suspicion falls on the passenger's front door. After opening them, the closing process stops. I opened and checked it, everything looks good. I discovered an important thing, and here I am asking for help. After closing the door with a double click (mirrors fold) I can hear single "beep". After that, the door opens normally. When I close the door with only one click, the "beep" is gone and the door opens again closes opens closes opens .... What does this "beep" mean, is it a sound that confirms closing the door? A similar noise occurs when I close the doors but one of them is open. Im really confused. Any hints? Happy New Year!!!
Do not use double locking ie double click.
The door latches can fail and if they are in double locking mode you will be in big trouble.
If you want to close the mirrors use the manual switch,
When a door lock is closing and opening repeatedly it could be that
the cable between the interior handle and the latch is too tight.
