Default XJ8 oil

I just got my first Jaguar. The XJ8 have 82000 mil.
I'm wondering how often you guys do engine oil changes on the car. Every 3000 miles or more? And also what kind of oil to use. Regular, syntetic or hafl syntetic. And what brend you prefer.
I know the car was service in dealer before I bought it, but I like to do oil change and filter change by my self.

Thank You

First of all, congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the "club"!

Look, oil change intervals and type is the oldest saw known to "car people"!

You WILL get so many different opinions here, and everywhere, in cardom that it will confound you. SO, go with what you think is best.

But since it looks like I'm responder nubmer 1, I'll give my $.02.

I decided to change the oil every 5K, and have gone with what the manual recommends: Castrol CONVENTIONAL oil, with the specification that most closely matches the API requirements the current oil's specifications meets or exceeds.

Happy motoring!

Since I currently drive my Jaguar only once a week, I change the oil every 5,000 miles or once a year using Mobil 1 synthetic oil. This is what my mechanic thought would be the best.

Corn syrup. All the cool kids have switched to it.

Oil change interval is every 10,000 miles or yearly, so cars not used much should have the oil and filter changed every year. Always remember, oil is cheap, engines are expensive.

And, of course, always use oil to the Jaguar recommended specification, (or better if you want to). Basically, most well known brands of 5W-30 are OK)

I've just gone into the garage and looked at the litre of top-up oil my local main agent gave out at the last service. Its Castrol Magnatec A1 5W-30 with the following specs API SL ILSAC GF-3, ACEA A1/B1. Meets Ford WSS-M2C913-A and WSS-M2C913-B.

Actually I hardly ever have to top up between services, so now I have two containers of this oil !! I use it for the carburettor dampers on my MG Midget

Default Refer to XJ FAQ section for help

Oil and filters are very controversial. However a oil change around 5,000 miles or a year is reasonable. Please refer to this procedure posted in XJ8 FAQ's it will help you with about everything you need to change it yourself. Its easy!

I'm from the netherlands and use kroon oil asyntho 5W30,
which exceeds the requirements of the advised oil.

I change oil and oilfilter every mid november just before the winter kicks in.
At the same time i change also the airfilter.
And used slick 50 oil treatment.
All this made the car run better and it uses less fuel than before.

I only use gasoline with an octanenumber above 98 and add 0,5 percent acetone to it.
Which really make a big difference
Used acetone to my last car a volvo v70 t5r with rica tune for 6 years without any problems.

Makes my car engine run better and uses 10% less fuel than without acetone. (under same circumstances)
