Hi Emerson,

1. Try to spray some lubricant on the runners to see if that helps. You're right in that it may be jammed.

2. Go to the General issues forum and download the JTIS manual from Christo's message. Kind of long, and the manual covers only 1998-2003 XJs but for sunroof issues you should be OK.

3. If it's an emergency, you can manually close the sunroof by removing the overhead garage door and sunglass panel. The sunroof motor can be turned by a screwdriver if I remember correctly. The procedure is outlined in either the owners or maintenance manuals.

4. Cover the opening with acetate and 100 mph tape until you can get it fixed

the sliders are binding up. Give the lifters a shot of lube like he said, and it should get atleast a little better.

I'd try some white lithium grease. It's possible the track is old and has swelled in its service life.

When you get it closed, lift it with the tilt function, slide out the headliner cover, and remove the roof panel portion. From there, you should be able to better diagnose the issue. Of course, if you do get it closed, I really suggest keeping it closed, and forgetting you even have a sunroof.

One of the cheap plastic tilt function pieces broke on mine, and I had loads of issues with it closing and sitting properly on the frame. Right now, it's shut, and I've got the $200 replacement piece in my closet waiting to have enough money/motivation to tackle it myself, or call my mechanic.

My 1995 Jag VP sunroof is not retracting, it's my sunroof liner, getting jammed when i retract it. Can't figure out how to get it the sunroof line to properly set. any suggestions.

Your sunroof liner might be jamming like mine is doing. Tilt the sunroof up and remove the liner. It will work fine after that. But the liner keeps the heat out when it's closed.

You should try a lubricant on the tracks, and check to make sure your sun roof liner is correctly installed. I had the same problem, and it turned out that the sunroof liner wasn't correctly in place. I had to remove it and replace it a couple of times to correct the issue.
