97 XJ6 L
Hi all- I passed on an 89 with extremely low miles, with the helpful perspective provided on this forum.
I have found a 97 XJ6 L that is loaded, very clean and has 65k miles. It has new tires, rack and pinion was replaced 2 years ago due to a seal leak, and they found it didn't cost much more to just replace the whole thing. It does have a very recently bent auto. antenna due to them not shutting it off before the car wash. I don't know if this is a big deal to fix.
Were the 97's a good year, with lots of the bugs worked out of them by then?
What would be a good price to pay for this? It has the 4.0 motor.
Thanks!

I wish all the 1988/89 XJ40s were returned to Jaguar and salvaged for parts!!!!!!
That is just my opinion after trying to keep so many alive!!!!
The 1997 XJ6 was one of the best. The only real problem was the intermittent engine stalling that plagued the series. (well maybe the whining diff bearings also??)
Great cars as I have owned a few.

Antenna is no problem. Rock Auto and others have the mast for less than $50, IIRC. Just make sure you remove all bits of the broken plastic track out of the mechanism of the old one during replacement. You may not have broken bits, but with the mast bent, you likely do.

The pinion bearings failing will be a higher pitched sound as the propshaft spins 3.58 times the rear wheels. The hub bearings have low pitched roar compared.
