Cabin Blowers working but won't increase in speed?
I bought a 1997 XJ6 X300 5 years ago and have been restoring her ever since. In the height of the summer the blowers started playing up, slowing down then returning to full power. Just when it got hot, they decided not to blow out or very little. I have had the fans checked and both are working. I have checked the Climate Control panel in the center console and this is also working. Can anyone else advise on what this may be please? I have a new climate control unit if this may be the problem but don't know where it is fitted in the car. With winter rapidly approaching, I really need to blowers to be working. I found a previous thread on how to check for errors and I have 1 apparently which won't clear which is a "23". Can anyone tell me what this refers to please?
Apologies for the lengthy ramble but I am new to this and not over qualified when it comes to car electrics. Thanks
The 23 error can also be that there isn’t enough gas in the AC.
I would take the car to AC specialist for a re-gas incase thats the problem, and they can check the switch operation.
Thanks again. I know that the aircon needs re-gassing and that this may or may not clear the 23 code, but it won't be responsible for the fans not working at speed would it?
The system is thermostatically controlled, and the fan speed is related to what the syatem needs to achieve, in terms of heating or cooling.
It has a degree of sophistication built in, in that in auto, the fans wont come on from cold until the engine has begun to produce some hot water to provide heat to the cabin. Equally, I wonder if the fans wont work in hot conditions if the system knows the aircon cant provide cold air to cool the cabin.
Speculation on the latter point, but maybe worth checking whether you still have the problem with the fans when the car is cold inside.
