Door Check - Question

Door Check - Question
Hello guys!
I am in need to replace driver door check. I've been searching on ebay and I have found some ads that say "Right or left door check". Would it matter which side the door check comes from? The plate that holds mine together broke up so now I get ugly pop sounds when opening my door.
Thank you.

They prevent the door from opening too wide and are able to keep the door in place when opening. Here is a link of one I am looking into. I think that is how you call it....

That's likely a crack in your door making the popping sounds. STOP IT! before too many more pops, it will break and then you'll have nothing to fix the check-arm to. Get some fender washers and install them on the fixing bolts for the next opening sequence.

Hello aholbro1,
Don't worry I have already fixed that problem! the bracket for the check arm has cracked and broken in half. Which is now causing that sound sadly :P
BTW does anyone know how to remove the bolt that holds the check arm to the bracket joint? picture below. When I first fixed using washers I could not get that dang thing out. I used hammers and all!

I'm puzzled by your dilemma....I removed two of those bolts (one ea from two different check arms) with no problem whatsoever. I don't recall anything special about them that would deny your attempts to separate it, unless some enterprising prior owner welded it to the bracket in a failed attempt to make that popping sound go away?
I don't remember the particulars of "why" but I guess that's how I removed the check-arm, leaving that plate fixed-in-place. I recall part of the evolution distinctly: I had placed the bolt to the floorboard, on the mat, and of course I had an LED shop-light down there for illuminating the work-surface. When I was ready to re-assemble, I could not find that bolt to save my life! Lifted the mat, shook it out, looked under the seat and even into the rear floorboard! Nothing, no joy. Finally I retrieved the one shipped in with the check-arm from David at EverydayXJ. After retrieving all my tools from the floorboard and laying them out on the worktable in preparation to carry them all to their "homes" around the various pegboards in the shop, I noticed my work-light sitting askance. It has a plastic hook on one end and a magnet opposite the switch about amidships. Yes, my bolt was stuck to the magnet.

Well I will be re-attempting to remove it today as I have removed the door panels to install a used door handle cable. But I swear that when I attempted this the first time I did everything to remove that single bolt and slide the check arm through the door handle to work on it. I even read a post here that even people had problem removing it!
I ended up squirming my hands inside the door panel to bend the metal back and place washers in its place to get rid of the popping sound. I will attempt to JB weld it before I buy a new check arm. Like Lady P I am cheap! LOL
