Default Lower Radiator Hose XJR 6 Cyl

Surely the engineers at Jaguar were looking to make some techs Suicidal when the designed this hose and its path.

Well it was a "have to do" job as the hose was leaking and my supercharger was making some loud thumps and I had the bearings and coupler for the snout.

Pulled and installed the supercharger in one piece, new lower hose, air filter. oil filter, oil and some brand new belts.

Tomorrow on to replacing the sagging headliner as the new fabric arrived today.

Good work. You've earned "JagMan" status :-)

You tackled the octopus and won!
Wondering where the Jaguar Brilliance went when they came up with this cooling system nightmare?

I think I spent about 15 hours on my lower hose...but that includes some "while I'm at it" tasks.

Cheers

I think the XJR lower hose is more difficult than the XJ6 lower hose as you dont have the supercharger and the brace for the supercharger in your way.
I worked all day on my car doing a bunch of different repairs. Looking back on the work just to do the hose probably would have taken me 4-5 hours, keep in mind that i have the lift and quality tools to work with.

well had some more time to work on the car this weekend.

Replaced all the bushings in the upper and lower control arms(except shock bushings).

Brakes: Four new rotors and new pads front and back.

While doing the control arms, it requires removing the front springs. The springs are very loaded. First attempted to use a screw jack to get the plate close to get the screws in but it kept lifting the car off the lift(danger).
Jaguar makes a special tool for this, JD115 and cost abot $525.00 USD. Too much money. For under 10 dollars i made my own. Just some 5/8 threaded rod a nut, couple big washers and a steel sleeve pin.. Worked great.

You can use 3/4" allthread. It is about 1mm smaller than the 20mm Jaguar tool.
A 5/16" roll pin will fit the 'notch' in the upper spring mount.
3/4 is a little stronger than 5/8 but it will work fine.

If I do have to go there again I will build a new tool to your specs as the 5/8 rod with 1/4 roll pin seemed to loose and I really wasnt comfortable with that.
Thanks

Question about replacing my XJR radiator hoses - I was quoted $147 each for the upper (MNA8231AA) and lower (MNA4510AG) hoses plus $237 in labor (@$95/hr). The price on the upper has to be a mistake, right? It looks like it's a $15 hose from sites I've checked.

I bought mine from rock auto... the lower one was under $40, and upper one was $10~$15.. can't remember exactly.. I bought all 9 hoses and total was $120-$150 w/ shipping etc.. (check their site to get the exact price).. it's a "URO" brand..

I haven't installed them yet... will do it in late spring...

The lower one is $67 on there now, but I got it for $60 on Amazon. Still better than the ridiculous shop price.
