Oil Question

I bought mine with 63K on it and the oil had just been changed using 15W40. Never had to add any. At 68K, I changed it and put in synthetic 10W30. Think I added about 3 qts to make it to 73K. I just changed it again, this time to 20W50, on the advice of Motorcarman and Brutal, both seasoned Jag Techs.
Haven't put many miles on it since the last oil change, but thus far, it doesn't look like I'll need the kind of make-up oil I did with the 10W30. I'll continue using the heavier oil.

I think 10w – 30w is about right unless it gives you a problem. You may ask what problems? Depending on the wear and tear on the engine and the ambient temperature of the area that the car is kept. If you look in the owner’s manual they touch on the subject just a little but not in its entirety. I am attaching a link to a page you should read www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/index.php I hope this helps! Please keep in mind that you are talking about a car that is 14 years old with 130k miles on it. I used 10w – 30w on my 95 xj6 4.0 for years but moved it up to 10w – 40w in the summer.

Guys, this was the reply I got.....
I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives.
As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs XTR, Millers XSS or Motul 6100

NB: Not related to the company just a supplier I use in the UK.

20w 50 thats interesting I use that on my classic jags the E and the BIG GEE
Never heard anyone put it in the newer engines.
Out of interest how often do you guys do oil changes, is it just at service intervals, or do you one in between aswell :?:
My clssics are every 3k for a service or if just driving around locally I oil change every 1k, hence always 20w50 in stock
