Default Rear Pendulum Bush (Genuine) Too Loose??

Hi folks,

Some help please. My mechanic tried to replace my rear pendulum upper bushes with genuine part CAC77601 but it seems way too loose! Doesn't even require a press fit.

This is part 18 in the diagram
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

The video shows how loose it is.

Is there something that we're missing? Would appreciate some advice!

Would you maybe have bushing # 18 in place of bushing #19?

That's a bummer, clearly wrong as these bushes should be super stuck in there, similarly to the ones in the wishbone tie. I've snapped a 1cm thick hardened bolt trying to press one of these in the summer, it was that stuck. How does the old bush compare to the new one? I assume will be slightly thicker? Unless you're able to sleeve it I think you'll be looking at a replacement pendulum.
I've came across a very similar issue last year with rear a-frame bushes on my LWB. Basically we've cut out the old bushes out of the frame, cleaned out the bore and proceeded to fit new bushes in only to realise that I could hand push new ones into the bores. I thought maybe the bushes were somehow wrong, but got another set which had exactly the same issue. In the end I've sourced a replacement frame and replaced bushes in that one and new same bushes were very tight in replacement frame so that clearly suggests that there is something wrong with some of the part batches.

Hi Kopi,

I don't think it makes a difference, but the diagram you posted the link to is for the X100 XK8 and XKR. But the same pendulums and pendulum bushes were used in the XJ40s, X300s, X100s and X308s (up to a certain VIN anyway). Here's the link to the X300 diagam:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

Here is the diagram for the X300:

Your part number appears to be correct. My guess is that these bushings are no longer available from the OEM (probably Lemförder), and the bushings available now are supplied by Üro Parts, which has a hit-or-miss track record in terms of parts accuracy and quality.

It would be worth showing the new and old bushes to your Jaguar dealer and ask them to order a pair of the lower bushings, CAC4713, to see if they are the correct size you need. It's possible the current bushing supplier mixed up the parts and part number labels.

It would also be worth checking with David at everydayxj.com and Kevan at growlerparts.com to see if they can supply a pair of NOS bushes.

Cheers,

Don

Don, if you look at the video, they are definitely OEM packed bushes. That's a genuine Jag packet with correct part number on it. Would be interesting if they mixed up packets and parts though but one assumes OP has the lower bushes too and can check.

Yes, I watched the video and saw the Jaguar label. What I am positing is that the "original" original equipment manufacturer of these bushings, which was most likely Lemförder, probably no longer makes replacement bushings for the pendulum. Üro Parts is a known current supplier to Jaguar of rubber parts discontinued by the OEMs, including bushings and flex discs. Some of their parts seem to be fine, and others seem to be out of spec, poorly made, or both.

I am speculating that Üro Parts (or whoever the current supplier may be) put the wrong part number labels on those bushings and may have also done so for the lower bushings, which conceivably could be the correct bushings for the top bores. Total speculation, but it wouldn't be the first time this happened. I once received a set of fuel injectors in Jaguar boxes with the correct part numbers on the labels, but the injectors inside the boxes were the wrong part for a completely different model (supercharged instead of normally-aspirated).

Cheers,

Don

I wouldn't be the first time that parts have been mislabelled and the part in the bag doesn't match the number on the label. I have seen rights and lefts mixed up on trim pieces.

I had to order and replace a inner L/Frt door panel for a new XK8 once. Received the trim panel and the customer brought the vehicle in for me to replace the panel, Turned out it was the right side panel. Showed it to the parts man and he ordered another one. The next was checked in at our door before calling the customer and it turned out to be the right side again. The parts Manager called the warehouse to find that they didn't a left trim panel in stock but they had twenty right side trim panels in a mixture of left and right boxes.

Thank you.

Thank you everyone, I hope it is indeed a case of incorrect labelling or a poor batch. I do have the lower bushings CAC4713 and those fit perfectly. I will contact Jaguar to see if I can get a replacement. Will report back!

Otherwise, I might need to get another pendulum assembly as @katar83 suggested

Just thinking several steps down the road, is it advisable at all to measure up and get into universal poly bushings? (https://www.suspension.com/universal-bushings.asp) Or Powerflex? (https://www.powerflex.co.uk/product-...Bush/1495.html)

Best,
Kopi

Just reporting back on this. Ordered some NOS from a local stockist. Same part number, package looks older, but it works perfectly. Looks like I'm gonna have to write to Jaguar about this.
