Went to open my car tonight and 'snap' the handle broke.

When I lift it now, it stays up unless I put it back down manually. When looking at the lifted handle straight on, there are two 'arms' I guess you would call them. The left one is still intact but it doesn't seem to be connected to the spring mechanism (because it stays up) it's the right arm that is broken clean.

I see handles for sale on ebay but they all show a key lock and I'm concerned about having to go to some dealer to get the car or that lock rekeyed.

Has anyone had this problem before and what's the best way to fix it?

Thanks,

When replacing the exterior door handle the lock barrel is transferred to the new handle.

A new handle should not come with a lock barrel (if they are still available).

A used handle lock is useless so use your lock and discard the used one.

OK maybe I'm confused because all of the handles I am seeing on Ebay have key slots on them, so then there is a lock barrel behind that slot which remains when changing handles/keyslots out?

Thank you,

If there is a lock barrel, you would just remove it and replace it with yours.

Had to replace the one on my wifes car a couple of years ago. Couldn't find an exact match so...

One of these things is not like the other.

Look at this other thread about the driver door lock removal (see post# 5 JTIS instructions):

Also found Ebay Photos of Driver front exterior door handle showing the inside component parts including lock cylinder.

Here is a JPEG file showing the outside and inside of the exterior door handle:

Another JPEG taken from TSB 76-64 instructions on removing cylinder lock from driver door (Jaguar 1990-91 XJ40 sedans)

Here is weblink to cylinder lock thread that mentions TSB 76-64:

Would you happen to be able to tell me where these door handles are available? I've been searching for a 2000 XJ8 Drivers Front. The arm connected to the linkage rod has broken.
