Question '99 XJ8 VDP: Remote seat memory - how to set

Hi. I've read all the documentation I can find about how to set the seat memory that is attached to a particular remote. Here's the problem - since I've owned the car, the driver-door memory pack doesn't work (someday I'll fix it). It appears that the only way to set the seat memory for the remote is with the door pack. However, I know for sure that it has set/reset before, so I feel like there is some series of steps I can take to get it to work. The position was fine, but then I did a bunch of work on the car over the last month or two, involving replacing the battery, doing a hard reset, and clearing codes. Now, the seat lays back way too much every time I click the unlock on the remote.

Anyone know how I can set it without the door-pack operational?

I believe if you set your seat to your preference (you may have to do it after key removal) and use the fob to lock the door, I believe it will return to that setting once you use the fob again. That is unless the controls having totally gone T up.
Have you seen this TSB... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/...%20Systems.pdf

Thanks, I'll try that. Yeah, I read the TSB and all the programming steps seem to include using the door-pack.

Didn't work, unfortunately. It was worth a shot though!
Any other ideas?

I think your module is gone beyond the milking point, time to replace.

Why can't you buy a $20-$50 good used door switchpack??????

You are trying to work around a simple fix???

Salvage yards and eBay have THOUSANDS of parts for you.

just my opinion

If I recall you press the memory button on the door and then press any key on the remote then whatever number seat position is currently selected will be memoed to that fob. I think the ignition needs to be on. When I get a chance later I’ll check.

I was just looking for a quick fix until I have the time to replace the pack. I'm well aware of the availability of that part.

On another note, I have a burned out light bulb in my house. It's been burned out for awhile. Light bulbs are sold at most stores for about a dollar, but I've been busy raising kids. ;-)

I do appreciate your passion.

Bob is good people, his bark is worse than his bite. I think because I owe him a beer? He has his own shop and has had it awhile...he provides invaluable info and tends to get to the point.
