Question Bumping sound in rear

I've been hearing some knocking from the rear and ready to assume sway bar links. Got under there to discover I don't have a sway bar or links in this model, driving me batty.
It sounded like the front swaybar links sound when they were bad. Over bumps like a dead bumping sound.
Shocks are new.
2001 Jaguar Vaden Plas

Any ideas?

Thanks all!

Tom

Rear upper shock mounts likely.

The new rear shocks came with new bumpers and washers with them. (August 2001) Not seeing why mount would be issue.

Were the donuts replaced?

Exactly.
On each rear upper shock mount, there’s a total of 3. 6 in total is what should’ve been replaced.

The formal name of the donut is "coil spring insulator". Got this pic from partsgeek.com.

I made a newbie mistake when installing the rear shocks. The foam parts that look like a wedding cake below were pressure welded together and I thought it was one piece. I installed with both under the shock mount plate. (Homer Simpson "doh" sound). Took out and reinstalled with one foam above and one below shock mount plate. There is an excellent thread on how to do without a spring compressor.

As others have said either shock or coil spring mount foams. Replaced all of them on my 03 XJR and what a difference. The coil springs foams were the cuprit on my car, they were pretty much non-existant when I got it apart. The lower shock bushing was also a problem on mine, used a shop press to remove old and install new. Easily done without a spring compressor, took about 2-3 hours start to finish to replace all of the bushings when I did it.

I believe so, but its been a few years since I've done it. You can probably find a diagram or even part numbers searching on there. This is a good thread on it with a video - https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-video-201680/

The upper shock mounts and spring insulators are the most likely cause. That said, if the exhaust hangers (a rubber affair) is worn out or gone, the tail pipe will also bang around.

Update,

Replaced insulators, no change. Still bumping sound, kinda hard bumping sound. Exhaust is tight, nothing loose there. Not sure where it's coming from.

Check the lower shock bushing, mine was very worn when I replaced it. You can check it by putting your head behind the rear tire and having someone bounce the rear of the car. If you see movement in the lower mount bushing it needs to be replaced. Cheap and easy to do with a press. Or you can replace the entire shock. I opted to replace my bushings since CATS shocks can get quite pricey.
