Chunk/Thunk Sound in Rear Pass Side
Every time I go over a bump, seam, small wrinkle in the road I am hearing a new thunk-chunk sound in the rear. Put it on a lift, pulled all wheels and there are no mechanical or structural issues -- no wear or malfunction in brakes, pads, rotors, springs or shocks. Trunk/Boot clear. Battery secure.
Ideas?
Thanks.

After battling this recently, I can tell you there's numerous things to check. Suspension donuts, shocks, exhaust hangers, drive line bushings/bearings(hub & differential),universal joints.

Check the A frame truss mount bushings just in front of the rear wheel wells also. If either of the points on either side have been used to jack up or support the car, if they were bent, they will cause a thump also.
Had similar experiences. Turned out small pebbles from my driveway stuckstuck in the tires that were launched into the wheel cap. Horrifying sound.

Tks for interest have alloys so no problem there
Thanks, Motorcarman! I have followed your advice for years especially because you are not far from my wife's home town, Wichita Falls.
Are there parts to replace the foam rear damper bushings? Is there a better substitute than foam? I dont yet know if that is the problem, but it would a good place to start and I'd like to know what the part choices are.
Thanks!

I buy the damper top isolators from my local Jaguar dealer and I get the spring isolators from RockAuto. (the spring isolators are less than $30)
The lower damper bushes (SPHERICAL JOINTS) are available as well. They sometimes make a 'thunking' noise so look at those.

Is the rear subframe similar to the previous car ? It was a regular job with these to replace the "A-frame" subframe bushes.

Everyone, We found the culprits causing the thunk/chunk sound in the rear. Motorcarman was correct! Congratulations. It was the big donut foam bushings as he described, and the worn insulators and bushings at the rear shocks. The only way to replace the shock insulators and bushings was to replace the main shock set up, which we did. They were 10 years and 50,000 miles old. But the big donuts bushings were probably the main cause of the noise.
Thank you all for your help.
