Default Daimler 2.5 V8 excessive brake pedal play

I recently replaced my brake fluid reservoir due to a leak. Brakes were then bled but I seem to have excessive play on my brake pedal! Feels like a couple of inches before brakes kick in. Pedal is not spongy, it is loose play! looked in manual which indicates that there is no adjustment available on pedal itself and it has been suggested that master cylinder may be at fault and internal piston not fully returning. Does this sound like a possible cause? I don't want to go to the expense of having it changed if doesn't resolve the problem!

Rich same as a MK2 which when supplied with a replacement either needed a spacer or the removal of the spacer. There were two lengths of push rods which sounds like your issue. A half inch spacer at the MC could easily translate to a perceived 2 inch travel at the pedal. Best of luck.

Thanks for response. what you say makes sense except haven't yet replaced master cylinder, just fluid reservoir! Is it possible existing spacer could have broken up inside MC causing this issue?

Sorry mis read your post. yes it sounds like the piston has stuck during the bleed.

I've read other posts similar, and in case you hadn't, one of the suggestions was to ensure a proper bleed was to remove the caliper itself from the rotor, and make sure the bleed screw is facing directly upwards when you bleed it. Not sure if you had done it, but it might be worth a shot.

That is good knowledge but on the car in question the bleed screw is at Zero deg. Removing it would not change the relationship for the better!
