The door wont open from inside. Mechanic working on other problem said he checked and the actuating gable was messed up.

Looking online it appears driver cable or opener assemblies are hard to find.

Can the cable only be attatched to the old handle part and work ok?

 

Sounds like you need to buy a left front door 'remote control handle' as JEPC calls it.

I have a cable and handle that I will install. Took it apart and saw what has to be done now that the parts are at hand I will repair.

Coventry West sells the cable alone as suggested above by sparkandzap. They sell for about $50.

Also E-bay sellers, about same price. Make sure your door handle is in good shape.

They are a little tricky to connect on the lower door latch area. Good luck
