Default Engine Compatibility

Hi there,

I have a 99 XJ8, and I want to replace the engine. The closest in my area I have found is a 2000 XK8 with 65k. My first question would be.....Is this engine compatible ith my car? Second question is.....Do the 2000 models have problems with timing tensioners around 70k as well? The fella who wants to sell me the engine says it is compatible, but I am still leary. I have had problems with the crank shaft and had the block replaced, with no sucess from a crappy mechanic....now I just want to replace the engine and be done with it. Does anyone have any ideas or comments?
Thanks in advance for any constructive input!

Holly

Any AJ27 engine from XK/XJ will work for you.
You can use 1999 to 2003 XJ8 or 1999 to 2002 XK8.

Forget about Supercharged engines as they are too different for a direct fit.

I would still pull the cam covers to check for updated tensioners on any engine I bought and it is easier with the engine out.

Thanks for the advice Bob, I really do appreciate it! I will have them check for the updated tensioners. If they are not updated, is it a complicated job to update them?
