Default Gear lever stuck in P

Hi - my jaguar 2001 X308 worked ok last night -this morning the car starts but cannot shift the gear out of Park - the P is illuminated - the rear brake lights work. Has anyone else had the same issue and if so what is the cause? is it fuse? any help most welcome. Thanks...just tested the winscreen washer - wipers working but not the screen wash- not sure if its related. Also I did a hard reset. Battery is good current just under 13 v

Regarding the fuse just have a look at #10 Amp5 in the engine management fuse box it is responsible for :
Engine control module, Park/Neutral switch, cruise control VSV 1 and 2 (where fitted), EGR valves.

The engine management fuse box is the one under the bonnet which is nearer to the windscreen

The RHD has two fuse boxes. A smaller and a bigger one (more to the front of the car) both next to the suspension. The smaller one is the one I mean.

I forget what model Jaguar sedan had the problem that when the sun visor mount screw 'shorted' the illumination wiring, the BPM also disabled the PARK LOCK solenoid.

I think it is the X308?

What a piece of information. I am very curious about what the thread starter will say about it.

Please check Bob's hint first. Afterwards, you can have a look at the wiring diagram to do some further investigation.

Default Stuck in P

just an update - manged to manually get it out of park by undoing the screw on the top and inserting a screwdriver to release the lock. I think it may well be the solenoid. Thanks for all your help guys.

Thanks for the pointer - it made sense as the headliner was replaced yesterday - checked the fuse on LHS in rear and found that 15a fuse was blown an kept blowing - process of elimination -lucky for me found the problem in driver visor - checked wiring and it was shorting - fixed the problem and now everything back to normal!

Thank you all for responding to my problem.
