Hi
Here is an email reply I received from NGK UK Technical:

Re: NGK 5464 Spark Plug (BXR5EIX-11) product fit for 2001 XJ8 4.0L -also its ohms tests range

Dear Jim,

BKR5EIX-11 (Stock code 5464) is perfectly suitable to be used in a 2001
4.0 XJ8 as an upgrade over the recommended spark plug.

This plug has a resistance value of 5kOhms.

Different markets can have different recommended items and our UK
partfinder site is relevant for the UK market vehicles only.

Thank you for your enquiry.

The email reply covers the acknowledgement that the NGK 5464 is perfectly suitable to be used in a 2001
4.0 XJ8 as an upgrade over the recommended spark plug. And the ohms resistance is 5k for this spark plug.

Thanks, Limelight.

Do you (or anyone else) happen to have fuel-pressure specs for a 2001 VDP? Both key-forward and engine running?

If so, would you kindly post? I've actually started a new thread about fuel pressure to help others looking for this topic, as I didn't see an existing one.

Thanks so much!

Thanks a lot, Jim. A guy from NGK asked me to call him... says he has some explanation. I'll post what I learn. I appreciate you looking into this. Odd, still, how some sites--like Amazon, as one example--specifically says they are NOT right for the VDP.

More soon...

When you had the ignition coils out, did you noticed any oil around the spark plugs (the Valve Cover Spark Plug Seals may have failed).

Just another possible issue that may cause the misfire DTC codes.

Hi Jim:

Yes, this was done. None were fouled, yet there wasn't a nice white "ash" on those plugs. My tech is heading in the "fuel pressure" direction right now. Theory is that cyls 7 & 8 are last on the fuel rail... and the last to get fed... so maybe the fuel pump is the problem. Brutal suggested to swap fuel injectors, so that's next.

Thanks so much for posting those docs!

Update soon.

Fuel pressure on most cars is between 32-42 psi key on, engine running. Fuel pressure should go higher with key on engine off, and when accelerating. These specs should get you in the ballpark.
Just make sure the fuel pressure does not go down when accelerating.
Cheers!

Hi, SirJag. Have you found any resolution to this problem? I am seeing very similar issues on my 1999 VDP NA.

Sir Jag has been long gone from this forum; last I saw was back in 2014 or so. This thread is six years old.

Maybe he is still reading on the forum . . . ?

Might try to open a new thread . . . In the meantime, what codes? Have you cleaned the MAF sensor; the throttle bore and plate; checked for air/vacuum leaks along the air tube; replaced the plugs; and most importantly (imi most importantly), have you replaced your secondary tensioners (out of time was probably Sir Jag's issue)?

Thanks for your reply Jhartz.

I found my issue this week. I replaced plug and coil on cylinder 5 (1B) and it solved my issue.

I will try to put together a full write up on the problem and why I had so much trouble diagnosing it and then post a new thread and link to it here.
