HID Upgrade

Yes, I've done the same thing just use "HID white" high power W5W led's. I used 6000k brightness bulbs. They match pretty well.

Sean has it right, and I used 8K color to give it a slightly bluer tint, though still white-ish. In my USA User Manual it calls them parking lights, but it is the same as the high beam.
I am also thinking of replacing my high mount stop with LEDs, though at $12 a bulb times 5 I am not sure if the extra signal time behind me is worth it. I guess it would give a couple hundred milliseconds, which I know from human interface studies is significant.

I got a used HID xenon set for 25 euro's from a friend but was held back on putting them in my 98 xj8 because of the bulb fittings.
Then this morning I found and read the first page of this thread with the photo's of the fittings and thought I can do that.
Took me 3 hours to adjust the bulb fittings and build in the xenon ballasts.
Result is pretty good because I have one lens that's not nice and clean on the inside.
Just had the headlight tested at my local garage and they are fine.
the amount of light increase is just perfect.
Reading through the rest of the pages I noticed those BMW adapters seem to fit the XJ lights......would have saved some work but nothing to worry about, I'm getting a spare wiring harness and will order the adapters someday in the near future.
So far no problem with the auto function, I also replaced the parking lights with led type to " almost"match the 8k colour of the xenon bulbs. I think I will get h7 led for the highbeam as I don't use that often.
Many thanks to everyone who posted in this topic
