Default Locked out of my car, need tips

I haven't started my 1998 Jaguar XJ8 in about a month and a half, and when I tried to unlock it with the key, nothing happens. The keyhole in the door doesn't work, but I can get into the trunk. I'm not sure exactly what is wrong, it seems like maybe my clicker on my key isn't working, or my battery is dead. Any tips would be welcome, thanks!

After a certain period of time, the fob will not unlock the doors or the trunk - you have to use the physical key. Then the fob will start working again. At least that's how my 98 XJR is - probably a safety feature or something.

Sounds like you might have a couple of different problems, but if you can get in the trunk you should test & charge the battery. Then try the physical key in the door(s) again and go from there.

A nylon banding strap that is slid into the top of the door and 'wiggled' down to the lock knob can pull the knob BACK AND UP.
You need to drive a thin wedge between the door frame and B/C pillar.

All of us mechanics at the Jaguar dealer had a short length of the 1/2" banding strap in their tool box for unlocking sedans.

A little penetrating oil (WD 40, CRC, AMsoil, anything) in the key slot and work the key, should loosen it up. Once in, start it up. Address the FOB later . . . doubt that's the problem.

Thanks for the response, I didn't know this. My manual door lock is broken, so I cant unlock it like that, but that helps a lot!

See post #3.

I have done the plastic band strap procedure half a dozen times and it ALWAYS worked.

All sedans from the XJ40 to the X308 have the same lock post at the door.
