Default Loose Lug Nuts Caps

I've noticed that my car makes a very light rattling noise over small bumps at slow speeds. I assume it was the center caps since my old car did the same and they were loose. Pulled them off and tightened them up and the noise didn't cange on bit. After poking around I realized its the caps on the lug nuts. None of them are loose enough to slip off, but I'm sure other have run into this before - what's the best way to remedy? Anything over 15-20mph you don't hear them, but a Jag should definitley not be making faint rattling noises when cruising through a parking lot.

In the past I have gone as far as removing the stainless steel lug nut covers and put a bit of silicone on the inside flats and put it back on. If you happen to visit a junkyard, you could invariably find some other lug nuts to see if their in better shape than yours. Since you have a 98’ with the Penta’s, you likely have the long shank lug nuts. Go find one with the short shank lug nuts in the junkyard. They’re a lot less likely to rattle in my opinion.

I have never had any success with repair, and I generally replace them with the "solid" style.
The Duchess doesn't like rickety rackety lug nuts.

Thanks guys, I figured this was pretty common. I believe these cars use 1/2-20, is that correct? If so I may just have some in my spare lug nut bin, have a few sets in there. I may try to remove the caps and use adhesive, but if that doesn't work I guess I'll jsut replace them.

For my 20-spoke wheels with exposed lug nuts, I went with Gorilla 73187SMB. They look nice and don't rattle but the washers aren't captive.

I kept the old jangly nuts, peeled off the stainless caps, and now use them under my Solars' hubcaps. Without the domes, they can accept the same 21mm drive as the Gorillas. I had a spare 21mm emergency lug wrench around from when I changed my Miata to 19mm drive lugnuts, so it all worked out alright.

Yea, good point. Guess I'll take one of and then try to find something close.

I've used those before on Weld Racing wheels. The separate washers aren't ideal but not the end of the world. Any idea of they would work on the Penta wheels for sure? Guess I could order one pack and try it out.

Hm, yeah, it might be frustrating to keep the washers on the nuts while fishing them into a deep lug well.
