Default Step by step instructions - JTIS and other forum thread

Hi SirJag
I know why you could not find this in the JTIS CD for the XJ models - 2001 section -- because it is only in the XJ 1998 selection.
Here is the JTIS extract:
XJ8 thermostat r&i.pdf

Here is another forum thread you should view:

Once again, "Uncle Jag" Jim comes through... this answered my Q to a T. Says the bottom hose must be disconnected. Now I know to wait to buy a t-stat before having the new hoses installed.

Many thanks Jim!

For some reason, there is a lot of material that got omitted for later year X308 cars in the JTIS. I have been assuming that the prior-year stuff is still valid.

Hi SirJag
I glad you like the JTIS extracted PDF file, but you also really need to read the other forum thread too. Look at the most recent post there -- Post #41 forum member is Kvmentor -- has many tips on how to do this thermostat housing replacement job. The tips sugguest many easy ways to get it done.

I am going to print them out before I start doing it on our car.

The general idea in the construction of JTIS is that material is only inserted if it varies from prior year information on the same subject. It's a pain, but you get used to it.

BTW, coating the inside of the hose with pure coolant can be a great help in slipping reluctant hoses back on.

I was used to, and had only seen, US car manufacturer paper shop manuals, which are entirely self-contained for a given year.

Paper manuals are great.

Writing notes works on a screen ... until you change pages.

Hi Boomer from Boston
Here is a quote from Pd-regan in his post (A must have Jaguar CD for all XJ8 & XJR owners)
The information is on the JTIS for your 2001 but you need to use the 98 or 99 year for the engine info!! It seems they only added entries in the years after 98 when there was a change from the previous years.

He was exactly right - all the engine stuff like piston, cranshalf, etc stuff is in the 1998 selection of XJ models.
