Default Need help to start diagnostic

I bought a 2000 XJ8 from auction. It seems this car was slept for many years. I replaced the battery and tried to crank it with no success. I have a bunch of codes here. First of all I had P1260/Theft detected, I tried to erase them all. Now that code doesn't exist anymore but I still have the following codes. I need a lead to know how should I start diagnostic.

P1000, U1135, B1352, B1438, B2368, U1041, U2012, B1595, and many regarding mirror, door, windows and ... Any help Plz

Thank you

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I have moved your post from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X308, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2000 XJ8.

The fact that you can read the B and U codes is good because those are proprietary Jaguar codes that not all scanners can read. What scanner are you using?

I'm attaching the Powertrain DTC Summaries manual, which gives the definitions and possible causes of the P diagnostic trouble codes. For the info on the B, C and U codes, you can download and install the Jaguar Technician Information System (JTIS) which also includes the Workshop Manual. See this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...archive-65998/

Please answer meirion1's question as to whether the engine will not crank at all or it cranks but won't start, and we'll try to help.

In the meantime, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

Cheers,

Don

You may have a bad connection in either the power or ground. Check the voltage at the bulkhead connections in the engine compartment while cranking. The car has been sitting a long time so all the power connections and grounds should be cleaned.

Will check and clean them tomorrow. But I have many codes pointing to ignition switch and cods, like U1135 "Ignition status not obtained, B1352 "Key-in circuit failure, U2012 "Communication bus error - non SCP, B1595 "Ignition switch -illegal input code and ...
Thank you

+1 on RJ237's advice on cleaning battery power connections and ground points. Even if the battery is strong, if the ECM sees much less than 11 volts while cranking due to resistance in the circuits, it will not trigger the ignition to fire. The locations of all the connections are shown in the Electrical Guide, which you can download here:

2000 XJ Electrical Guide

Another thought: the tachometer should register about 200 rpm while cranking. If it shows 0 rpm, suspect the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS). If the tach shows about 200 rpm while cranking, then the next thing to do is check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail, and if there's no pressure or not much, suspect the fuel pump, fuel pump relay or the pump electrical circuit.

Cheers,

Don

Finally I found the problem. It was fuel pump and was very hard to replace it. After replacing the pump, My Jag started in a second. Engine sound is perfect and ... But I still have a bunch of codes that my scanner could not erase. I'm looking for a software set to use on my car. I found "JLR IDS SDD 148 for Jaguar and Land-Rover diagnostic software for 40 bucks" on eBay but the OBD2 interface is not included. My questions are: Is it a good software or there is any better option in the market? What OBD II Interface is good to buy for it.
Finally I want to thank you all for your time and helps.

Only a proper J2534 one will work and they normally come with the software (or free download).

Which codes do you still have? What are you using now to read them?
