Hi, I want to share my cause of a suddenly appearing noise from my power steering pump( PSP) on my 2000 XJR.
Steering was with normal light effort, no problems in this area.
Only with light steering left or right (not in the middle position) there was a rattling and clicking noise from the region of the PSP.
Steering fluid (Dextron III) was at the right level and fresh, no air or foam. Belt was in good condition, no wobbles or play at the pulley wheel (but with belt strapped on it).
Then i checked the 3 bolts on the pulley of the PSP and found that one of them was only handtight!
After bringing it to torque-specs all was silent again.
Pulley to PAS pump 18-24 Nm.

So if you hear a rhythmic clicking in this area, only when applying a steering force at the wheel, think about those bolts.

My 2000 XJR has exactly the same rattling noise only when steers left or right, not in the middle position. I replaced the tensor thinking that that might be the noise. I am going to check the PST bolts. Thanks !
