Quick stupid question 2000 xj8 vdp antenna wires
Which wire is positive/hot? I’m wiring an amp for a small pair of subs, and need to wire the remote on. It was suggested to wire into the power antenna on my other post.
i did look up and figure out how to tell with a multimeter, if it comes to that... but I would rather not have to cut all the wires if I don’t have to.
There are-
solid black, which I usually would assume is the negative
solid green- which I would think is ground
but the striped one... is this the hot? Usually striped means negative too. Looks orange and green.
Or or is it the solid black? Ugh
this is like trying to rewire my three way switches in the house. Even though it’s only 8 years old... all the wires were solid black. That was not a fun day. How did the electrician ever get a license? When I wired a garbage disposal in... all three wires were green.. Adding an exhaust fan and heat lamp in the bathroom, I found two reds and a blue. Sigh, I shudder if anything else needs replaced or added. I digress... took pain pills.
in other words, electrical is far from my forte.
Be my hero ! Which wire is hot? Thank you soooooooooo much.

Brown/Green is permanent +12V.
Green/Black is +12V switched on by the radio head unit - IMPORTANT: this supply has limited amperage and cannot be used to power anything that draws higher current; you can use it to switch on your additional Amp only if the Amp has a separate main power input which needs a permanent +12V of higher amperage (depending on the Watts of the Amp) and a separate input (small Amps, usually ~50-100 mA) to trigger the Amp on; the Green/Black of the antenna can then be connected to this Amp trigger input.
Black is ground.

Hi Joe,
No need to do that project without the wiring diagrams. You can download the Electrical Guide here, courtesy of our member Gus:
Jaguar X308 Electrical Guide 2000
See pdf page 139. The antenna motor receives battery power on the Brown wire with Green tracer line (color code NG), and the Green wire with Black tracer line (GB) is the control from the head unit. The Black wire goes to ground.
EDIT: Sorry, M. You were typing while I was but you were faster!
Cheers,
Don
