Default Type of Tranny Fluid for 2002 XJR

Hello, what type of transmission fluid is recommended for a 2002 XJR. I know it is a Mercedes Tranny. How much fluid is needed for a complete fluid flush...
Thank you

Just buy some fluid for the 722.6 Mercedes gearbox. Your local Daimler/Chrysler dealer should have it in stock????

When I was looking for automatic transmission fluid for my 2000 XJR I went to local Mercedes dealer. They told me that current Mercedes specification for this transmission is 236.14. I bought me some Fuchs Titan 4134 and Mercedes filter and everything works very well.

+1 on the Fuchs 4134. Works like a charm and meets the MB specs for the 722.6 tranny.

With a single drain+fill (via drain plug and filter change) you can replace 4-5 liters. That's almost the half of the 9.5 liters which are circulating.

Dont forget to replace the conductor plate, connector, and the ATF filter.

Does the torque converter have a drain plug? I seem to recall that a few of my '80s Mercedes' did.

My 1999 Super V8 has it but it seems that MY 2000-on do not have it. Still, it's worth checking (through a rectangular opening on the bellhousing, if you have one).

Early on the electronic 5 speed MB box had a TC drain ... I'm not sure if it was eliminated at the same time as the bearing upgrade .. but it was gone by the time of the W210 refresh in 2000. Because of it ability to handle high output engines the MB box was used in many vehicles back then. Porsche used it when they reintroduced the turbo in 2001 (996tt) tip.

When MB stopped supplying the fluid -- early adopters of the new fluid reported different shift characteristics (the fluid is thinner). I still have 5 bottles of the original MB fluid (236.10) set aside for one of my R's .... but, I used the Fuchs product for both my W210 wagon and W203 when they needed servicing and did not notice any difference. The Fuchs product is actually an earlier specification vs the newest MB fluid. Don't know what Jaguar is selling at this point ... it was always an expensive product in the dealer network. Many now use the Valvoline Maxlife fluid in the 722.6 boxes as it's cheap and easy to get .. it's a thinner fluid when you compare it to the 236.10 or the Fuchs. AutohausAZ sells the Mann kit and Fuchs fluid.
