Default Tyres for XJ8

Hi everyone

My car has Pirelli P6000s and they seem to give quite a harsh ride. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what a good tyre for comfort I should consider? Or do I need to deflate a bit?? I am on 30 - 32 psi. Or could the harsh ride be due to another problem? The grip on corners is great, so I doubt there's a fundamental problem with the suspension. Any thoughts?

Cheers
Guy

30-32 PSI is correct , don't deflate the pressure
I have heard that almost all Pirelli products are firm , harsh ride . You can try Continental , Yokohama, Michelin Primacy . I do run Yoko and Michelin and surprisingly I find Yoko very comfy

Default Take a look at Kumho tires - see thread link in this post

Hi
Click on this link to this forum thread about Kumho tires - they are reasonable priced and have a great reviews on the internet (TireRack customer reviews or others). Smooth and quiet ride. scored 98% in relation to Michelins top rated tire. About 40% less pricey.

I just bought tires at Towne Fair Tires - I used them to buy Kumho Grand Touring All Season tires - they lowered their prices to match Tire Rack discounted price and its $50 American Express rewards card. It was just easier to buy and have tires installed locally for the same cost.

The OE PZero tires are nice and soft w/ reinforced sidewalls for a lower pressure on the Jaguar -- That is why they are the only tire ever used. But, they do not last long and are expensive.

The P6000 - is a completely different tire.

Not a big fan of Michelin tires -- too hard.

My last attempt away from the PZero was a set of Goodyear F1 GS-D3's -- I put a set on my performance SUV and really liked them. They have been nice on the XJR -- but not as nice as the PZero.

You need a soft performance tire with the way the Jaguar is set up. Going for long life will minimize performance and normally give you a harsher ride.

It really depends on what you want out of the car.

I too wanted a comfortable tire and also one that is quiet. Here's a post I wrote about a week ago. I have since put another 600 miles on the tires and still am very happy with the purchase.

Cool Had lots of tires on my Jags...

And liked the Pirelli's the least. Also not crazy about the Sumitomo HTR Z summer tires.

The Continental's were OK. They have a new tire the A/S DWS that has gotten some good reviews. Seems like it is best to install these in the winter for snow traction first.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S were about the best I found.

Still searching for tires I really like for this car.

Will probably try the Yokohoma Avid Envigor A/S next as I like them on my other cars.

Blackkbeard: That interesting about the Pirelli tires -- did you have the PZero system?

I'm not a huge fan of all season tires -- but it does depend on what you want and the type of roads you drive on.

I had the PZeroes...they are noisy and get progressively much worse with every mile. They did have good traction, but the constant drone of the tires drove me insane! They were also the hardest to keep in balance with the car wobbling when they were out.

I have had Pirellis on my other cars and been fine with them, I just don't think they handle the weight of the XJ8 very well.

I had to get rid of my Contiextreme DWS tires because I could not deal with the flat spotting for the first 20 minutes of driving every day. As for their performance in snow and ice, the Nokian All Season WR was vastly superior.
