What did you do to your X308 Today?
I replaced the red oil cap with the black "recommend castrol" cap and took off one of the cam covers to verify what upper tensioners I had - yep the plastic ones.
Which is odd because the tensioners, timing assy and water pump were all replaced 18 months ago and I have documentation for it. Anyway, I ordered up the aluminum ones today and will be taking care of that next weekend.

I'm selling it now. Posted in the Classified section of the forum. I'm planning to upload pics this weekend. If anyone wants to see any particular picture of this car just PM me.
I had our engine oil, oil filter and air filter changed today.
First time using Shell Rotella 5w-40 T6 full synthetic motor oil. Bought 2 one gallon Jugs (needed 7 liters = 7.4 quarts).
I used Mobil 1 synthetic 0w-30 on the last engine oil change.
I read here on the forum that Rotella T6 cleans and lubricates the VVT mechanism.
Well I will see if it makes the engine quieter at startup.

I added more coolant and drove about 100 miles -- waiting for my aluminum thermostat tower which should be here early next week, then I should be able to quit adding coolant all the time! LOL
Now that's ambitious. I should do my cam cover gaskets, too!
I drove it 60 miles to get Pizza. No heater on the way up, but it worked on the way
back. No check engine lights. A successful mission. Life is good.
Tip turning on ALL the electrically heated seats will take the chill off when the heater
isn't working. I did look at the replacement Heater valve sitting in the box. It will
get changed when it is not raining.

Ok it was yesterday but got her majesty to come back to life after 2 weeks in coma. Cylinder wash was the symptom. A lot of great help from fellow jag lovers on this forum and she puuuuured back to life. Have a bunch of codes show up now, but in comparison to my fear of timing chain issue or dead engine - I don't care as much anymore ;-)

Brought my Jaguar XJ8 to my home yesterday to wash and polish it. My wife saw it for the 1st time, and the 1st words out of her mouth were “Wow she is a beautiful car” can only happen with a Jaguar!
Yesterday after work I did the upper tensioners, valve cover gaskets and some misc stuff.
I didn't get to the stat & housing yet as I wanted to take the car for a drive before I called it a night, so that's for another day.

Going to hopefully check the water level in the battery. I may also wipe down the Asteroid wheels. They are chrome and get noticeable dusty after driving 3 times. I need to also try to soak the key insertion place on the xjr keyhole on the trunk lid. I want it to work, and it is currently corroded.
I visited my car in the shop -- poor thing is just sitting there waiting for a part to be delivered by the Jaguar dealership. I'm sitting here dying to get it back because I'm supposed to be driving it 1,500 miles before Sun to start my vacation.
I hate waiting...

I did a rear break job on my "98" XJR. Pretty simple and straight forward really. It really needed it and I was waiting for good weather to arrive and that day finally came. The main advise I would give to someone deciding to do that is to make sure before you compress the caliper pistons is make sure to open the bleeder valve first, You DO NOT want to force fluid back through the line because it could damage the ABS pump with is a $1500 expense. It's not a hard job just a little time consuming so give yourself plenty of time. Have a great day.
