I have driven 300 miles just because I was having too much fun to stop.
I understand why some people have two Jaguars. One to drive when one
is in the shop...... It does not take much of an excuse to go driving. It is
a good way to make sure it is dry after washing it....Maybe the gas is
getting too old, better use it and replace it......Why make one trip to the
store when you can make two.....

Today I had my wing pin-strips replaced, after a lot of bodywork as some of you may know, some pin-strips had been repainted as you can see, one my of my wings has been replaced and they didnt match the old ones. So a before shot followed by 2 after shots.

Today I didn't necessarily do anything to my xj8, but I did however order an incredibly good condition set of dash area wood trim panels. They look brand new and I am RELIEVED to not have to worry about getting my current panels restored. This was a way cheaper route.

This morning I unbolted the Michelin X-Ice tires mounted on the extra rims, cleaned all the wheel speed sensors (doing each one at a time before putting the Kumha summer tires mounted on the original rims back on the car).

The last 2 days the Trac off and ASC off messages were popping up, then as the weather warmed up yesterday around noon, the messages went away?????

Well anyway the front wheel sensors did need cleaning and the rear ones also needed a little cleaning (the wheel speed sensor bolt head is 8mm).

The last time I cleaned was Sept 2011 and they were very dirty (caked on dirt).
It was the first time they have ever been cleaned since the car was new.

Default RealGauge & Armrest Cup Holder delete/GPS install

I installed a RealGauge kit from WhiteXKR and deleted that stupid, useless cup holder from the armrest and installed my Garmin GPS there instead.

Installation instructions for the RealGauge were great, it took me about an hour and I'm comforted knowing that my temperature gauge will be telling me the truth from here on.

See here for GPS install thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...78/#post717516

My X308s been sitting a while.
However today I got the crownwheel and power-lok unit out of an old "358" 15HU X300 diff. It took some doing to get it out even with the side driveshafts out and the bearings free.
I then pulled the pinion flange off.
This is the diff I intend to use in my X308 XJR with modifications so that the ratio is brought back down to 3.06:1 to suit the Mercedes gearbox.

I now have to do research into what and how the Dana44 internals (that DO fit a 4HU diff from a series 3) will fit inside and how to adapt it to the jurid coupling. It looks like an adaptor can be designed up in CAD (going from the 4 bolt flange -which is shorter- to the 3 bolt) and made up. Now i also need to track down a 4 bolt flange adapter from a scrappy.

Finally got around to installing RealGuage. Worked fine right out of the box. Whats next? Tie rod ends, bushings, alignment and some enjoyable driving!

I flushed/changed the brake fluid. It used just under a quart of DOT 4 to do the job well. I had about an ounce left over from a one quart container.

I painted the hubs silver while I had the wheels off.

Cleaned the brake dust from the inside of the wheels too. Simple Green works pretty good for this job.

I also installed a Jaguar logo "projector" in the driver's door. It is wired to the puddle lamp and comes on when you open the door. I like it and will probably install one in the passenger door too. (Thanks to Cat Man Do for suggesting this mod, he had them on his ride when we had our central Florida meet and greet.)

Replaced front brake rotors and pads. Not as bad as I thought, got it done in an hour and a half. What was bad is the condition of my old rotors! And the uneven wearing of the pads.

Just spent a sum on fluids, filters, plugs - put it on stands and the wheels off for detail. Battery on charge, body detail can wait until it's out of storage then it's down to my mate's paintshop for the works. He's got a new 3M paint buffing system.

Looking forward to putting some miles on it this year, last year was a washout. I want to visit certain roads in Wales (Jaguar development route) and Scotland - anyone seen Skyfall? Now for some sunshine....
