What did you do to your X308 Today?
#3342
My new shock mounts came in the mail yesterday, so this morning I thought I'd have a go. Thanks to Carnival Kid's instructions, the installation went off without a hitch.
From the time I dug out my floor jack, to the time I put it away and wiped my fingerprints form the engine bay and hood, 50 minutes.
I wish all the upgrades were this easy.
Thank you again Carnival Kid......

I have these on my car and they top them off nicely. ;o))

Yes that rear-end odyssey had me on Defcon 4 lol. Turns out it was mostly fueled by multiple inept mechanics w/ ill educated diagnosis & not the car. The good thing from this ordeal is that I now have a great independent shop that's well versed in this era Jaguars.

Edit :
I've found an excellent condition XK8 wheel, proper color w/ no air bag but I can't find any solid info. as to if they are interchangeable, only vague answers like "they should fit" etc. The airbag when installed on those, looks to tear/open @ a different angle than the X308 so that gives me concern as to fitment.

if you are simply replacing the front upper shock plates just jack the car in the purpose jacking place under the "A" pillar. you do not need to remove the wheel, or go under the car so a jack stand isn't necessary.
Just jack one side at a time, and use the jack to simply lower or raise the car to "thread" the shock stem through the shock plate bushing.

Had the annual service from my local authorised dealer. It's expensive, but it's one of the two times a year the car is looked over by professionals, so it gives me peace of mind knowing it's all ok.
Due this service was brake fluid, but as I am still waiting to fit my Brembos, I thought I'd hold off and do it all at once. Hopefully I can find the time to get this done before Christmas, so that it's all ready to take away for the holidays!

What do they say about cleanliness?
2001 XJ8 X308 AJ27 w/ 106k miles
I'm doing a bit of cleaning before refitting the heads ... putting an engine together with dirt is just exceptionally bad practice showing poor workmanship and a lack of attention to detail ...
Steel cylinder liners still show honing cross hatching and no scoring anywhere.
A Bank in car
B Bank in car
Same cleaning detail on the heads, timing cover, cam covers, intake manifold (painted aluminum engine paint)
Lines in the cylinders are camera flash mirage reflections in the oiled cylinders.
Next, clean all sealing surfaces with denatured alcohol.
Damn, now I have to detail the whole engine bay...
Cheers!

I took my car to work on Saturday to have new tyres fitted, but the tyre guy didn’t make it to work so I’ll have to try again in the week. I’ve been having parking sensor issues recently, I bought an entire working setup from another X308 that was being scrapped. Yesterday I swapped the modules to see if it was that, which it wasn’t, so it looks like I’ll have to paint sensors and try those.

My VDP has been sitting unused in the garage for the past two or three weeks. Initially lots of California rain, and then a medical procedure that laid me up for a week.
So it felt really good today to jump in her and take a drive.
I think this is the first time I have used the heater in earnest ......and the heated seat(s)........(I also tested the passenger and rear seats just to see if they worked, I had never tried them before).

Took my car in to a new shop to try and have them diagnose the pulling left issue I can't seem to resolve.
On the bad side, my front left lower ball joint has a good 1/2 inch of play, and I just replaced those this January. Off to warranty it is...
On the good side, I finally found a shop which actually knows how to work on x308's! The service writer knew the rear axle shim setup off the top of his head, knows someone with a PDU, and so on... I'll be going back there in the future for sure when I need odd things repaired.
Hopefully the new ball joint + a proper alignment takes care of this issue once and for all.
