The transmission I’d install is the lower mileage one and keep the other trans as a replacement.
Phil, I’d check the o rings at the hoses on both charcoal canisters. Also check inside the metal tube for any rust as that will certainly keep the solenoid propped open at the canister.
Checked and it's clear. Fault appears to be tank cap seal.
That is the easiest test, but in my experience, it is usually something more
exciting like a hole or crack in a hose or rubber o-rings that are no longer
functioning as designed.

It's spurious, but I can recreate it (and stop it) by putting the gas cap on 180° around.
Happens when I don't watch what I'm doing at the gas pump...
Entered summer mode. Asteroids are so nice looking on this car, but a couple of mine have a slight flatspot that can't be balanced enough to dampen the vibration. Refurbishing seems very expensive, $200 a wheel. Yikes!
Here in Finland thorough wheel refurbish are priced around 1000 euro's set of four. This includes small non round corrections, paint removal, grinding if needed and powder coating. Not cheap at all.
Replaced the 500$ hose for 20$ unfortunately my car intake manifold was broken and caused vacuum leak so I had to either buy new one for 500$ or do something I used 1/2 transmission hose which work great I had silicone hose but it shrinks the transmission hose better I used plastic T and kept the hose connectors to install the 1/2 transmission hose works great
I got a 3D printer last week and yesterday I learned basic CAD design just to finally create a solution for my lack of cupholders in this car. I know the average Jag crowd probably isn't looking to stow many Monster cans but for me this is great. This is only my very first try; once I get my proper measuring equipment I'll be making a more advanced version as well as other fun Jag stuff
If anyone wants to print it themselves, you can download it here.

Good job! I wonder, do you think the following item can be easily done on 3D printer? I didn’t research it much but I assume it would have to be somehow scanned first?

Ah, yeah, I broke one of those too last week when doing my fuel pump It'd be possible to print for sure but indeed a scan would make it a lot easier since it's a pretty tough shape to measure and create freehand.
i got the engine out of silver, im gonna replace some seals and maybe timing chain tensioners, anything you guys may suggest? and put this engine into a 99 vanden plas. Thx everyone for encouragement.

split the transmission from the engine. Pull the flex plate off. Replace the rear main seal and oil gallery Dowty washer. Those two are engine-outs to do. Might as well do them now. Inexpensive.
Do you have the tools to do the timing chains?

Trans removed ( giving it to friend). I will remove engine and install engine and trans from my wrecked silver xj8 into this Vanden. I'm in over my head, here we go.
Last week I took the ol' girl out for a holiday waterfront jaunt. OTW some ill informed douche kid in a shittyV6 Charger equipped w/ a shittier exhaust mod & treble laden generic drill rap blaring gunned me @ the light. I simply dropped her into low/1 Sport mode & the shitty Charger grew miniscule in my rear view mirror all whilest Hall & Oates waned lightly in the backdrop (sinister laughter bellows).
While I have the engine out I want to fix what I can and am working on tensioners and guides.
I did some parts research and am overwhelmed with options. Buying parts individually is very expensive and prices (probably quality too) varies wildly. The kits I've seen all come with chains.
I'm in "analysis paralysis".
The OEM chains on the engine (114 K) look good so I wasn't going to change them but all the parts kits I've seen come with chains.
Can anyone suggest : A parts kit, and, should I replace the Chains or go with the OEM currently on the engine?
I used the kit from DNJ Engine Components. https://enginecomponents.com/product...9l-4-4l-tk4163
Bought it on Amazon, along with the tool set to do it all (barring the big torque wrench to do the crank pulley up)
motor swap operation continues. i removed the bad engine from new to me 99 vanden plas. I'm waiting for new tensioners etc, for the motor from the crashed 2001.
