Well today during my bore wash ordeal the paint guy showed me that some of the rear bumper support guides/brackets were broken where the rivet mounts therefor giving it play w/ bumps. I think I've finally found my damn noise lol. Safe to say I just ordered all new pieces.
Congratulations, I hope that has been the source of your elusive knock, it is oh so nice to finally find those things.

changed the rear tires with sumitomo tires I would not recommend it for comfort ride . but I think it's good choice if you're on budget

Yes indeed if this remedies as I strongly suspect it will the rear knock, I will be hard pressed to complain about anything lol. That noise has been the bane of my vehicle owner existence for over a year now. All the broken supports were on the driver side as well, exactly where my noise emanated from.

Other than that, with the car apart I'm well pleased, no rust anywhere minus the mufflers.

Paint Prep Revelation 2

The back bumper which I thought was suffering from clear coat failure was actually suffering from body filler crack-age. Unbeknownst to me it had been repaired w/ a lot of body filler/Bondo, those broken brackets & noise now make sense. I checked local yards to no avail but found an OEM refurbished skin primed & ready for paint online @ a great rate.

It was really repaired well by the PO because neither I nor my guy noticed it even w/ the cracking we thought it was clear coat. Once he got to sanding, it was exposed.

I've cleaned out my lair of never ending unfinished projects AKA my garage, hopefully I can get into the habit of using it lol. I found projects in there from cars' I haven't owned in 15+ years lol.

Serious note, once the paint gasses off 5-6 weeks, I'm going to seal it, then coat w/ a really good carnauba wax. I've researched the new craze w/ the ceramic coatings, nano skins etc. I just can't see it as not being partly a snake oil sales campaign. Going to be doing 90% of all the washing & waxing personally here going forward as well.

Paint Hiccup:

So last week I order 5 bumper support straps part # HNC6569AA & have them shipped to my paint guy. He gets them & they are the side straps/incorrect part # HNA6453AB. So I of course scramble to track down the correct part which I did but the website Terrysjag.com lists them in stock but they're not. I spoke to an actual person & they're saying they can have them in & shipped out Priority tomorrow. I just wish people took their work as serious as I do, I mean how do you not check part #s ?! Also why list parts on your website & offer the fastest shipping available, yet not actually have the product on hand where you can honor the shipping offers ?! I just hope these guys' don't slow up my paint process.

Frustration level 4 of 10 .

Update :

https://www.terrysjag.com/

Ordered some rear bumper support brackets upgraded to USPS Priority shipping due to time constraints w/ my car being in the body shop. I reached out via their website messaging to ensure the parts were on hand & could be expedited w/ no delay. The parts manager Matt states that they do not actually have the parts on hand but ensured they would get them in & shipped the next day. I then get a phone call from the salesman confirming info. & even verbally stated "Priority Shipping". I hang up feeling everything's sorted, today I get the notice that my item's been shipped. I check the tracking #, it's been shipped First Class ?! I could have ordered these from eBay for much cheaper & received the same speed maybe even faster service.

Be warned,
Stock not accurately reflected on the website. Shipping speed upgrades are charged, yet not honored even when speaking to staff via phone. Avoid if you want expedited service.

Frustration level 5 out of 10 lol.

In iconoclast's thread regarding replacing his oil pan gasket I couldn't help but notice his front air dam had a retaining device holding the back edge to the sway bar.

So today I looked under mine and saw that two holes are provided in the air dam, but mine didn't have any retainer and hung down, so I strapped it up with a simple zip tie. I'm guessing it will now be held more firmly and won't flap as I'm sure it surely must have?

Is the strap shown in iconoclast's pic the original strap?

Insult to injury, so my tracking shows delivery, I call my paint guy & he states there was no delivery. I guarantee these guys' @ Terry's Jag sent them to my billing address which is many miles away & not monitored for mail since the hurricanes. I'm never using Terry's Jaguar again.

Frustration level @ 8 of 10 lol.

I started mine today? Been two weeks, so I thought it was probably good time to do so. I'm just waiting on warmer weather so that I can tackle the tie rod end, get some tires on it, and figure the evap code out. But for now, she sits idly by. Or as I like to think of it, not gaining mileage

After a ~2500km (1500mile) road-trip earlier in the year, following my wedding, the tyres are finally ready to be replaced.

While I'm at it, I'll be taking off the factory Asteroids, running 255 40R18, and changing to 245 45R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on BBS Milans

I also finally picked up a Karcher K3 waterblaster with car care kit, so I'll give the old girl a good wash and get some pictures for you all

While the wheels are off I might even get a couple of pictures with the 20" Detroits, but unfortunately I don't have the funds to replace the tyres on them just yet. They're only really for show anyway. It's a tough life!

Discovered this while I was test fitting all of my wheels yesterday (see picture thread for wheel pics)
I think it might be time to replace them both with the smaller/narrower XJ40 bump stops

Car's back & looks awesome, but the headlight I replaced w/ a used unit looks so much better than the others, the hunt's now on for similar conditioned mates lol.

Default Jump lead start

I had been away 3 months (winter time) and on return my 308 electrics had died. I was able to open the driver door with the key, but all electrics has died and was not able to do anything else, including opening the boot to get to the battery :-(. Thankfully I found a thread on here which informed me that using jump leads there is a positive point in the engine which is covered by a rubber cap LHS which can be used in conjunction with a connection to a clean metal part of the chassis as negative. To my wonder i attached the jump leads from my wifes battery to the points recommended on the 308 and voila, electrics were resumed, car started and everything returned to normal. This saved me hours of investigation and work trying to find a way to get the boot open and access the battery.
I guess the problem was something to do with the deadlocking and a long (winter) period of no use - anyway it was great to resolve the problem and learn this way of jump lead starting for future. I have decided to buy a new battery as the current one is 10 years old lol.
Thanks for the info - this community is wonderful.
I attach new pic of my 308 after major renovation work - I promised my wife when i bought it new in 1999 that it would be my last car - 20 years on my love for the car has not diminished and whilst I spent £7500 on the body and mechanical renovation, every penny was worth it!
I have to thank Jamie of Gibbon and Wilson in Glasgow for managing the project, undertaking the mechanical work and outsourcing the body work, He is a brilliant Jaguar specialist and I cannot recommend him highly enough, Brilliant work thank Jamie.
Pic attached :-)
