Sent the old wheels out to be refinished and repainted in a custom color. Figured while they were off I would freshen up the brakes a bit. Pads/Rotors only have 2k miles on them but calipers were ugly. Figured the silver would go nice against the new wheel color.
Car's back w/ new tapered/pivot/hub bearings installed, 4 wheel alignment, my 3+ year odyssey to find & remove my last rear end noise is now complete lol. It's amazing how much effect those small bearings have, It's so much smoother on curves that shift weight to the driver side. I could @ times feel that rear wheel bobbling,not anymore, did I mention the damn creak is gone ?! lol.
Kudos to the braintrust of Jag Forums for the images & inside info. I actually printed diagrams & a thread from here & gave to the shop lol.
Only wanted to check the lower wishbone bushes, but in the process found the front springs were either broken or rust welded into the spring pan. I think I'm the first person to remove the springs in the past 200k miles. I keep having to remind myself to use this tool as it's the only one that truly works Need to remove the brake disc and shield, but it's worth it Rust around the bottom front spring... Doesn't look good... Did you know that after 200k miles, these two parts become one 😁 Not a nice picture! Job completed today, thanks to British Parts sending the springs etc, post haste.
I did find it slightly difficult to achieve 150Nm on the wish bone bolts whilst laid on my back almost sandwiched by the car sitting on the ramps, being scorched by the sun every time I poked my head out!
Never again!
The low oil dash light had been going off and giving me stress. Only after warming up and only at idle but it took away from my enjoyment driving around to see it go on.
I was worried about the oil pump going bad, but figured to replace the oil pressure sensor first to see if that was the problem. It's an $8 part and easy to fix. Right next to the oil filter.
Well that fixed things. The old sensor definitely had some gunk blockage. Now I have new oil and lower stress worrying about the oil light. Feeling happy.

Is that a spray on silver finish? I tried the brush on stuff and it really doesn't look as good.
Wasnt really expecting to have to do much of an alignment after installing new springs, but I was very wrong. Couldn't really drive the car over 20mph without it. It was miles out.
So here's my tool set: string, 13mm wrench, 22mm crowsfoot, and a tape. 3mm toe in as a rough home alignment gives a very nice result.
Don't forget the plastic bags under the front wheels either. Makes the whole job so much easier.
Clamp that steering wheel down too somehow.

Well guys China's decided to knock off the center caps @ a big discount($20 per set) they look like proper clones w/ the video. I may order some & take one for the team for evaluation purposes .
Mine separated where the color partially came off like film in spots, so I painted w/ some craft acrylic paint & reattached w/ silicone. I don't expect that to last & will replace all 4 w/ new ones when I have the tires rotated in about 3K miles.
Today I sold my X308, she goes to her new owner on Sunday. This ends 11 years of continuous X308 ownership and 3 versions of the car. I am fond of the car and I’m sad to see her going but it’s time to move on.
