I ordered an O2 sensor - should be here any day now -- can't wait to have that fixed so I don't have use my OBDII code reader to erase the code every time I start the car! (I hate driving with the CEL lit).

Post Getting my baby working properly

Today i am sorting out various electrical gremlins. Love my Cat but wish it was easier to find pictures of some parts. I have a downloaded service manual but the title says XJ series 2001. Hoping this will work on my 2003 XJR. Haven't had time to work on her much but this forum is incredible and the people are too.

Replaced brake disks and pads over the weekend. Unfortunately something's gone wrong with the right front, and sometimes there's a metallic grinding noise when turning left.
Sounds like something hitting either the stone guard, or the back of the disk. So some time this week I'll have to pull it all apart again and check what's going on.

Hi FirstJag7979
You must have downloaded the 2001 thru 2003 XJ Series Electrical Guide PDF file (multiple PDF file names (3 of them)- X3082003en, also jfj2002en, and jzj2001en).

Apparently since all 3 model years actually use the 2001 XJ series electrical guide PDF file contents that probably means that the no changes were made in the guide since 2001 for the next 2 years (2002 and 2003).

Pulled everything apart last night and found the issue... there were two small stones lodged between the stone guard and the lower wishbone, and when the wheel was turned these were putting enough pressure on the stone guard to cause it to grind against the disk.
Stones removed, and a quick smack with a crowbar for a bit of extra clearance, and the brakes are perfect again

FYI the calliper bolts are T45 Torx, NOT 7mm hex.

How many litres of trasmission fluid did it take to do the flush?

Not sure what a quart is being from the UK but if I had to guess I would say a quarter of a gallon or 1.135 litres?

Quart = 32 ounces here. Would be 0.946353 litres.

Replaced the clock light bulb, pretty easy just had to pry carefully on the passenger air bag wood trim to get the clearance I needed. Looks SWEET!

Wanted to have the differential drained as well but this shop said they couldn't handle a Jag's said I should try a dealer, there is no dealer with in a 100 miles though. I'll look around I'm sure one of these small import shops can handle it.

Pretty sure you have to drop the whole rear subframe to do the diff oil. It's not hard, just takes a bit of space. Make sure you clean the breather on the top of the diff while you're at it! They clog over time, causing pressure to build up, which can lead to leaking pinion seals.

Hell man....are these guys useless or what!
It's easy peasy....no dropping of subframe...no shifting anything;o]

All you need is up on the hoist...at back of diff on the upper side of the rear alloy plate you will find a plug with a square hole in it.
Use a 1/2" drive handle which will fit the plug or a wrench designed for the purpose.
Slip it into the plug at such an angle to be able to give it a good quick thump to break open the plug.

Then, use a suction gun to suck out the old oil.
These things hold around 900ml which about a pint I think.
If the oil has never been changed, it will stink like you wouldn't believe ;o))

Replace with any good quality full synthetic 85W90 GL5 rated oil.
Fill to start to to drip and wait until stops dripping ad replace plug.
The original washer should be fine.
I always add a diff additive into the 900ml mix...stopped my r/h side output seal from leaking ;o)

Just bought Rockford Fosgate Punch P152's to replace the dated factory speakers front & back in the Jag, getting them installed in the AM. The left front is blown w/ cracked grill the rattling/popping is annoying lol. Gonna look into getting a 8-10 inch ported sub & amp as well.

Well after 2 days of mid 70's FH weather it's down near freezing & the heater is not working, engine temp.'s normal & all the fans come on. With my recent coolant system flush(yesterday) I'm hoping it's just air or a stuck valve somewhere, grrrr err brrrrrr lol.

Had all factory speakers replaced & 2 12' Memphis Car Audio subs in a ported box installed in the trunk.

Had my coolant system inspected for air there was none, so now the no heat issue thickens, I plan on searching the forums & checking fuses etc.
