I tried to load a video but was unable.

After the engine ( timing set too) and trans swap from crashed 2001 xj to 99 vanden plas , I turned the key and I started right up and runs great. (so Far) . There's still lots to do though.

I am very happy. Thx everyone for the advise.

I've pretty much decided that later this year when the I get the full timing chains done that it'd be rude not to get a bigger bottom pulley fitted too.

My understanding is the bottom pulley gives more increases than the top one plus avoids issues of belt slip which I've heard of with smaller top pulleys. I believe the normal choice is the pulley off a 4.2? is there any particular one people recommend or are they all the same?

To explain, I've no real need of the extra power but just fancy being able to say the car is 400bhp not 370bhp & from my understanding a bottom pulley gives about 20% so fits into those figures nicely.

Nice I will remember that one 👍

Working on AC.

Minor question., don't want to start a new thread.

I got this AC o ring kit, rings are not fat enough and don't make a firm seal. Anyone aware of a proper kit. green or black?

Thx, jeff xj8

I hit up my local NAPA and matched a bunch of new green ones to the old- took to them with the vernier calipers at the store and found a set that were correct.

@jeff xj8 , I opted for one of those 270 piece O-ring kits to ensure I had correct size and diameters - just matched one by one. Make sure they are HNBR for use in AC systems, I think most green are but best to double check.

Could be the old ones have swollen as well, but also preferred using fatter ones in the kit that matched what came off the line.

A package from our very own @jeff xj8 arrived in today- one part I was able to easily change was the ultrasonic sensor that the previous owner of my car backed into something solid. That meant a cacophony of beeping whenever that car was in reverse, which had no relevance to what was behind the car.

Installed and tested. Works nicely, and it's silver which is close enough I don't know if I'll even bother painting it.
Thanks, Jeff! Another update to come when it happens.

Phil

Replaced the driver's side low beam light. Looks much better now the reflector isn't all cateract.
Some of the silver Jag lives on to be enjoyed another day.

Glass cleaner on a rag on a stick.

Less glare from the glass now, which is good. Means more light ends up on the road and less in other driver's eyeballs.

Better for everybody.

Annoying. Ordered a LJD3850AA and received the non adhesive version.

Ordered what they say is the adhesive version. Sensor can rattle about in the gap until that arrives. Had to clean the plastic up because the previous adhesive had caused it to craze heavily.

Phil, I was unaware there was more than one P/N for those pads. 😳😳
Please let us know how the new adhesive pad works out for your automatic wipers when you receive the correct one and the P/N.

I do know that PVA and Lexel clear adhesive certainly do not adhere to the non-adhesive pads!

Hopefully the one I ordered is something nearing correct. Shall see! I really don't know if this is the seller's listing incorrect or what but that's how it goes.

Almost finished paint job in zbr hypershift, definitely overdosed the pigment and paint is more red than intended but effect is still fantastic with color shift from nearly black violet through wine red to orange
Also did some chrome elements like window surrounds grill etc in black so all plays nice

Very nice. Looks good as is. Deep burgundy is a pretty color. Brings out the lines of the bodywork very well.

Come paint mine next please?

WOW . . . Fantastic colour choice. My purdy cat is Sea Frost blue . . but a wine red/burgundy would definitely be my second preference. Nice too to "see" a picture of the front bumper (fender) mounting struts as I'm currently wrestling a stubborn mounting bolt out where the threaded inset at top of mount has given up and started to turn . . . so man - v- jag situation going on at the mo.

Maybe if you remove bumper together with the mounts you will gain enough access to the top nut, on xj40 i would block the nut by wedging screwdriver between nut and beam body but there beam was fully metal and here it is all plastic so i doubt it will work

With paint job i was aiming at black turning into red with tiny orange hue at maximum sun but miscalculated pigment and all color spectrum shifted to burgundy, looks great so i don't mind, but i didn't really have a chance to enjoy the new paint yet, all left side needs buffing and it was rainy for last few days so maybe tomorrow

Not today but last week I bought her back! Being reunited with a car that was special to you is a rare opportunity, time for restoration to begin.

Okay. Fun times. Note that LNA3850DA is not the correct part either.
(NoS part, large opaque round cardboard disc with ancient adhesive on one side that all came off with the backing film.)

I'm beginning to think LNA3850 just means "part of the vehicle, unspecified"
