what kind of spark plugs does my 98 xjr use?
I need plugs for my 98 xjr and it had champions on them, are those the right plugs? Not trying to spend $10ea plug at the dealer either, perf. Somthing at napa, autozone..etc
This link http://jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepa...sb_09_2003.pdf on page 17 will give you the Jaguar nomenclature use it to cross over to a quality plug from your local store.
SORRY, I Accidentally posted the plugs for an XJ8 below, but I will leave it as reference for the N/A owners. The XJR is Jaguar OEM NGK Laser Platinum PFR6G-13E. If you want Laser Iridium It should be the same as the XJ8 part number but with a 6 in place of the 5.
XJ8 Plugs
The plug is NGK Laser Platinum PFR5G-13E which has a platinum tip and laser welded platinum in the ground electrode. costs $13/ plug at Advance Auto Parts, but good to 100k.
Interestingly, the 4.2 x350 NGK Laser Iridium plug cross references to the x308 4.0 laser platinum plug. That is the one that I changed over to because it costs the same yet it has an iridium tip and a laser welded platinum ground electrode.
I'm sure if the iridium plugs were around back then, they would have used it as well.
The NGK grades in order of preference are:
Laser Iridium $13 IFR5N10
Laser Platinum $13 (Jaguar OEM) PFR5G-13E
Iridium $7 BKR5EIX-11
