Unlikely that is your cause though if it does start then shut off.

Make sure there is actually fuel in the vehicle. If wrecked, too many possibilites as to why....damages harness etc

Maybe check the fuel pump relay also. It is in the trunk fuse box.

I have the same problem with my 99 xj8. I just replaced the fuel pump, I'm thinking maybe there is a safety that shut the switch off? I had a "failsafe" message on the dash, not there anymore though.

In the 1999 Jaguar xj8 there is a fuel cutoff switch on the passenger side right hand panel to the right of the feet. Reach over the top rear of the small panel and find a soft flexible membrane on the top of the switch and press it until it clicks.

I would think no
the engine may fire due to leftover fuel in the cylinders
the inertia SW stops the ignition (spark) as well I believe and the fuel pump
so if you turn on the ignition you should be able to hear the pump run in the tank (boot access) or remove the cap if there is not much fuel you may hear the pump
you can also bypass the pump relay by jumping the switch contacts of the relay
my XJ8 kick but won't run plenty of fuel plenty of spark new fuel pump and with the help of the forum we are down to maybe a flooded engine the fpr replacement next
there's also the WOT (foot to floor) to clear out any excess fuel
anyway I wish you luck

I installed 2 fuel pumps on Jaguar XJR 2000. I might have bent the fuel line or return under the tank. The car runs now but shuts off after approx 30 seconds. I did not remove the tank completely. Could this be the cause of the performance and whats the best way to fix it without removing the tank completely? Thanks

The inertia switch is in normal position, the tank has about 4 gallons of fuel. Should I bring the fuel level to about half a tank? The fuel relays are working fine and there is 12 volts at the pump.

Hi Naresh
I am not sure if your car/tank is the same as my XJ8 1998
but I removed the tank just enough to get my arm in the top and get the pump out, and new one in

Then when I pushed the tank back it kinked the fuel line supply.

so I disconnected it from the filter
pulled the tank 1/2 way out again and used a pipe cutter tool to cut it off about 2" long
then brought some high-pressure fule rubber hose and 2 clamps
connected the tank first put it back
then under the car, I had also cut off a 2" piece from the filter nut and then joined it all together
tucked it up away from exhaust and cable tied it
this was just to try and get the car going But if you don't mind not genuine its seems fine.

I am downloading a video for you
I will send a like soon
Regards Dutchy
