Default Paint quality XJ220

Hello guys,

I am proud new owner of a blue Jaguar XJ220. The car needs still a new service and new tires and then I hope I want to enjoy this dramatic and amazing looking super car!

After checking the car I just found 1 topic:

When I look at front hood in specific angle, I can see lots of cross-grinding marks. Itīs nearly over the whole hood. I donīt know if you have also this marks on your cars or not?

If itīs not "ex works" I would like to repaint it otherwise I am interested to keep itīs original paint.

The thickness of the paint on the hood varied and is in average 400. The rest of the car shows also high variance but the average is around 280.

So do you think the hood was already repainted or do you have also this signs on it?

Thanks in advance and best regards

Hardy

Welcome to the forum Hardy. Nice to have an XJ220 owner with us.

As you can imagine these cars are few and far between, I'm not sure how often other XJ220 owners are checking in here.

Have you contacted Don Law Racing on this subject? I guess you will need to be in touch with them sooner or later anyhow.

Got any pictures of the car you could share?

Thank you Cambo for the warm welcome!

At the moment the car is in a workshop. I can post pictures next weekend.

I had also the idea with Don Law and contacted him, he think itīs not original.

Cheers

I know of one to look at....I'll write myself a note. But, to be honest, I don't recall any such issue with the paint

Finally remembered to look at the 220 in my care. It's an out of sight, out of mind thing, sorry.

Anyhow.....

I saw no finish/paint issues as you described

Cheers

Default XJ220 paint quality

If there is apparent grinding marks in the paint I would suggest that someone has repainted it.. TWR would never have sold a 220 with dodgy paint. My 220 paint is virtually flawless.. even on the bottom! I would also strongly suggest that you get Don Law to go over the car very carefully to determine what servicing or restoration it may require... You CAN do it yourself.. but sooner or later you will discover that Don's your man! And better BEFORE you screw something up! These cars suffer from PO syndrome. Which can be expensive to rectify.
