Default 6.0 V12 Accelerator Cable Adjustment

Hi All

Lady Penelope has always had a bit of hesitation between putting my foot on the accelerator and starting to move. Over the weekend I had a poke under the bonnet and found that there was a bit of slack in the accelerator cable with a 2.5mm gap between the accelerator cam and the throttle linkage plate.

I tightened the gap up to 0.5mm using the barrel cable adjuster, which has significantly improved her response. The attached pic illustrates.

Is 0.5mm too tight/loose and if so what would people recommend as an appropriate gap?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

I adjusted the throttle cable on our '93 while the engine was running so I could eliminate as much slack as possible without raising the idle rpm. I listened for an increase in rpm and checked the tachometer to confirm. Here's a link to photos of the job on our N/A 6-cylinder:

I agree that removing the slack produces a significant improvement in engine response to pedal input.

Cheers,

Don

Many thanks Don

That's a good writeup.

Cheers
