Default 1985 XJ6 Sovereign requesting info

Hi Everyone
I am extremely knew to jaguar land and looking at getting in on the market. I have found a 1985 XJ6 Sovereign that someone is selling and was just wondering what the general consensus was on these? (i.e are they likely to hold there value if looked after, how reliable ect....). The one that I am looking at seems to be in good condition aside some rust on the door and roo (I will get this looked at by a mechanic). Any advice would be much appreciated.

rust on the roo? or ROOF? Don't buy someone else's problem. No they do not hold their value, start with best carroserie you can find. Rust is not a good sign. It is a RED WARNING FLAG. Keep looking. XJ-6, Vanden Plas, Sovereign, they are all rhe same car with a little different trimming and colors, always in the interior of the car. The outside is identical in all except for the badges or emblems. Please add you country / location to get better advice. These cars vary by country.

Ok thanks for the heads up. The picture below shows a picture of the back of the car which has what I believe to be blistering around the back glass. Is this an indication of rust under the paint? If show is this a very expensive exercise to remove if the damage isn't very extensive?

normally yes, you would need to remove the trim, glass, rubber seals. post a picture of the rusted door.

It pricked my ears up the first time I saw the add. I just wish I had the funds to add it to the fleet.
I have spoken to the owner, if what he says is true it would be worth me driving 900+ km to have a look if it were in the budget.

Too much rust.
Look for something better.

I saw this car advertised and initially thought it seemed a good deal for and 85 car with 60,000km.
Further thoughts are that it is a heap of rust that has done a lot more than 60,000km
Also it comes from an area in Sydney that is full of crooked car spivs

If you are willing to strip the car down completely, have all the rust cut out and welded up and then have the entire car repainted, go for it...

Once the windows are out and the paint is stripped to the bare metal, you'll see the true damage.
Now it just looks like a bad repaint...

I recently had my car (86 S3) done. Both windows out, small rust repair at rear (had to pull the rubber to see it) and previous repairs redone at the front. By the time you chuck in a windscreen (bad chip) and a headlining (while your there) you dont get much change out of 3k. If the rust is that visible it will be a significant repair by the time you get that stripped back. Depends if you are a body/paint guy I guess, I am not.
