Default Borg Warner 66 Trans Slipping

Hi Everyone!

My transmission seems to be slipping in reverse only. It will back up ok if on a flat surface but, it will slip if I back up on a slight grade. I checked and tightened the bands which were loose. I also adjusted the ATF level. Car has only 41,000 miles. Just curious if anyone thinks this might be repairable without having to rebuild the whole transmission? I know it is difficult to say without actually seeing the car, etc. I'm just curious what everyone thinks. Thanks!!

Sounds like the reverse band is adjusted incorrectly or there is a hydraulic pressure issue with the servo that actuates the reverse band. Your valve body could also be dirty. Did you change the fluid and filter screen or just add ATF?

I just topped off the ATF. It was 1 1/2 quarts low. I adjusted the reverse band to 5 ft pounds and then backed off 3/4 of a turn.

I tightened the bands a bit more (5 ft/lbs and then back off 1/4 turn) and it is better, but still slips under load. I'm thinking of trying 5 ft/lbs and not backing off at all to see if that is better. Any thoughts?
