After receiving a new fuel pressure regulator for my 1983 XJ6, I quickly realized I didn't have the right part... Instead of all three fittings (2 fuel + 1 vacuum) be a beaded hose fitting... instead one of the fuel fittings was threaded. Upon closer inspection, it looks like some cars were fitted with a straight fuel rail that is compatible with the threaded fitting (color image below) and those with a circular style that require all barb fittings (b/w image below).
The earlier fuel rail that I had on my 1980 was an absolute PITA, as it was very prone to leaking where the flexible pipes joined it. In addition, I understand the later one is less prone to fuel vaporisation due to heat. The later fuel rail is a lot better, so if you can, swap them over.
Yep, earlier engines had Fuel Pressure Regulator EAC1284
Later engines had Fuel Pressure Regulator EAC4864
And, no they are not interchangeable.
Cheers,
Nigel
Thank you for the quick and helpful reply! I thought I was going crazy... and given the later is more preferable, it gives further evidence that the XJ6 I purchased is extremely original. thanks again.
