Default Gas cap vent pipe

Title should read Gap caP vent pipe!!!

i have been able to remove both gas caps in prep for some paintwork (front and rear screens out for rust issues) and i am unable to determine where the other end of the gas cap vent pipe leads. The manual states that it should terminate in the vapor separators within each of the rear pillars, however i see only 2 pipes leading into each of the separators and not 3 as indicated by the manual. This is a late 87 model XJ6 so i am wondering if changes were made without making their way into the manual.

Both vent pipes are in poor shape so i would like to replace.

Can someone please assist.,

thanks

Russell

Maybe this will help

Look at item #19 in this illustration:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

#19 is the hose from the filler neck to the vapor pipes.

It's been a few years since I replaced mine but as I recall the hoses are clearly visible from inside the cabin if you remove the package tray. A little tricky replacing them but doable. The ID of the hose is quite small; 5mm or something like that.

Figure 3 will give you the relative location of the fuel expansion and venting system.

Thanks, the diagram shows 3 pipes entering the vapor canister in each of the pillars and this is what i looked at previously with no luck, mine only has 2 going in there so i am thinking it must "tee" behind the tank as there is no sign of the other end of the small pipe anywhere. i have checked as Doug mentioned above and i have still come up short. Nothing can be seen inside the boot either...
i am going to drop the tank when the car comes back from being painted.

Go to post #10 in this thread. One of the pics shows the hose that goes to the filler neck

Russell, if you look closely at the link in Doug's post you will see that the gas cap breather (19) and the line (12) that eventually ends at the vapor cannister in the right front fender are indeed Tee'd. The Jag manual shows the three lines entering the vapor separator separately, but if you only have two, I would suspect the Jag/Land Rover Parts picture is probably correct.

Good luck

Dave

It's all coming back to me now.

The paired pipes....the ones that you've seen already....obscure the third hose that goes to the filler neck. If you loose or remove the canister in the c-pillar (one screw anchors it) so the the paired pipes can be shifted aside a bit, you'll then see the hose that goes to the filler neck
