Took delivery of my 1984 JAGUAR XJ6 today, 88,000 “Grandparents” miles. It appears everything is operable. Every gauge, bulb and function. Haven’t checked out the cruise control yet. Can someone out there in Jaguar Land possibly post me a list of where to start with corrective measures/preventive maintenance. From what I’ve read, it seems one of the items would be these dry looking rubber fuel lines. Looks like a spray or leak waiting to happen. Maybe have the list in the priority of importance. Oh yeah, I also don’t like the way that dry looking gas cap rubber sits. Thanks so much, anybody. Okay, gotta go, need to get into the maintenance papers in the Manila folder they gave me. I saw $5,700 worth of work was done last year. In 2002 the paper shows it had 84,000 miles. That’s 17 years ago! Peace.

Visit the pinned info on this site and just read read read posts. Mine was a non starter until I replaced fuel lines, filters, pumps and changeover valves. Runs great now but... needs front end work and.. A/C.. and etc etc etc
What a gorgeous example, and in the best Colour too!!! Congratulations!
fuel lines need attention for sure, and don't forget about the one on front of motor!

Thanks for that. Love that shade of blue. My British Racing Green screams “LOOK AT ME!”, your shade of blue whispers “okay, I’m not bothering you”...
You're a very lucky man to find such an obviously cherished car; it doesn't get much better than this ! What I would do now is go through those invoices to see what work has been done on the car. Unfortunately, even with the best of things, old age takes it toll on cars not just us humans, so you may have to do a repair at some point. At the mileage you quote, the cars did tend to blow a headgasket, but not all of them. I think a lot depended on the owners - starts car and then drives as if in the Le Mans races before the engine has warmed up - not good, However from what you say the car has been very well looked after so just enjoy it and don't be upset if you do have to do some work, it is part of elderly Jaguar ownership, just ask Doug Dwyer !! You will bless the Magic Carpet ride, now lost on all the modern Jaguars.
Been working my tail off to pay for this Beauty, so I’m just getting back to the Forum. Thanks for the kind words and the excellent advice. You know I was looking through Craigslist and happened to scroll down and saw “Her”. I, just for fun, emailed the seller and asked would he accept $500 non-refundable deposit and requested 30 days to payoff the balance. OMG! He replied “Sure”. $5,000 later, and now I own “Her”. Now, to be completely honest, if and when a repair is needed you won’t see me in the street dancing a JIG, but I relish the opportunity to use my mechanic skills to do the repair. Then, while advancing down the road I’ll know that my repairs are responsible for keeping “Her” rolling. I think I’m in Love with “Her!”...
How often do we read in here, Love and Jaguar, not only in the same sentence but in the same Breath!
By the way, almost All Jaguars I know of are Girls! Just sayin....
