How to remove the turn signal switch
Hey guys,
I've got a few problems with my turn signals.
I've also got a spare steering column so I was going to attempt to swap the switches on the columns since the condition of the spare is far better than the original. However, I'm noticing that the bracket seems to go clean around the steering column. Am I going to have to take the wheel off to do this? I'm really hoping that I'm missing something obvious and stupid.

Yeah, I kinda figured that out the hard way.
Needless to say... I don't think I'm going to try rebuilding this switch. I could, but I could also do brain surgery on myself with an air chisle.
I think I'm going to clean the contacts on my existing stuff very carefully and pray to the Lucas God for the magic smoke to stay in the battery.

Thanks anyway Jose.
I decided to repair in place instead of replace.
on the flip side, does anyone know where the diodes for the turn signal indicators are located? I'm guessing they're behind the instrument cluster, but I really hope I'm wrong. I've got a bum light on my indicators and it's not the bulb. I've also got a bum light on the same side on the rear light. The front light works fine though. I'm thinking it's a loose wire on the bulb, and I've got a bad diode on my indicators. I'm having difficulty locating the diodes and really didn't want to drop the steering column.

Sorry about that. Autocorrect error. I meant to say diodes. I was really hoping you weren't going to say that. All lamps fire correctly, it just doesn't show on the indicators. I was thinking it was either the diodes or the flasher. Looking at the schematic you gave me seems to indicate that after those parts the circuits are lamp dependant. My hypothesis was that if it was the stalk it would also affect the signal to the lamps.

the diodes are in-line with the wiring harness connected to the tachometer and speedometer. Each diode is in the turn signal indicator bulb wire. About 3 inches back from the connectors of each harness to each gauge. You need to disconnect the gauges and then unwrap the harnesses to find the diodes which after all that hassle you will discover they are fine.
