Hi all. TerryL53 here. I am living in Dublin and last June 12 months I became the proud owner of a 1981 XJ6 4.2L with 85K miles on the clock. Generally in pretty good condition but needed some TLC with the paintwork which has now been completed . Also required an upholstery refurbish which has also been attended to. Photo attached. Cheers for now, I'll be back in the coming days to tap your brains regarding some electrical issues that I'm experiencing.

Do Stay safe you guys and gals.

Terry

Hi.
looks great. and body side moldings would make it look "younger" and "thinner", like the American Series 3 XJ-6.

That is a very striking color and great looking car. I like the ride height and personally favor the smooth sided look. Did you have a body shop fill the body side molding attachment holes or did your car come without moldings?

Hey Jose.

Except for the repaint the car is original and I prefer to keep it that way. There is a gold pinstripe running along the sides from front to rear it's just not visible in the photo. Appreciate your comments and interest though.

Keep safe.

Hey Dave.

Car is in original European spec and came without side body mouldings so no holes. It does have a gold pinstripe on the sides running from front to rear just can't be seen in the photo.

Cheers

Hey Jim.

Oops! I thought that was where I had put my first message. I'll have to go looking for the new members section so. Obviously I'm very unfamiliar with the site at the moment.

Hi Terry,
in Europe they did not come with the side moldings, in the USA those were added by the Jaguar distributor. We also got the pinstripe all the way to 1987 models.

Jose:

Actually, on cars which had side mouldings, it was the dealerships which added them and only at the owners' request; that happened (unfortunately) in Canada as well. I cannot agree with your favourable opinion about side moldings - these cars were designed so that the eye swept along the body from front to rear; with mouldings in place, the eye stops right there.
My first job in my restorations was to remove side mouldings - which I found on about 30% of the cars. There were two kinds- the really bad ones with clips that required holes drilled into the body, and the less horrible ones which used 3M tape (the majority). These were easier to remove.
With mouldings, before restoration (Canadian market 1990 V12 Vanden Plas): your eye goes directly to the mouldings:

and another 1990 with mouldings, before restoration: same issue:

A different car (1992 V12 Vanden Plas) without mouldings:

and another 1992 V12 Vanden Plas, as designed by Jaguar, no mouldings to trap the eye:

Pictures are worth thousands of words....
