By replace do you mean the filter itself or the mechanism to make a screw type fit? I have replaced the filter on mine and not expensive though a PIA to replace.
I just removed air filter box....IIRC.

oh i think i just mean the filter or element inside that needs to be clean for it to do its thing, not sure if the mech itself is good or not as a matter of point. one item i have not really touched.

the filter when removed is marked as an AC96 .. assume AC Delco?
is there a standard replacement number for this part?

The two parts numbers I have are NSS12962 and NSS11670 for the cartridge, they may help in sourcing a new one.

Jagdaim have one on their site listed for S1 and Early S2.

According to my listings:
The R2308P "cartridge" filter was UP TO 1973.
The Z113 (now Z133) is a "spin on" filter assembly for 1974 onwards.

I cannot find a cross reference for AC96 in my lookup.

So, is yours a spin on or a cartridge inside a tin can??.

Either is readily available in any half decent Auto Parts Store.

My '74 series 2 still has the canister filter although it is one thing I definitely plan to replace with a spin-on setup.

Really? Oil is to that engine as blood is to mammals.
Impedment in either sure will effect performance.
Like none, finished!!!

Either the old tech cartridge or newer "spin on" are fine as stated.
Big "if". Changed regularly.

Just did an oil and filter change on my 4.0 Jeep.
Similar to the Jaguar 4.2. But, a "spin on" parallel
to the engine, just over the starter. A bit of a struggle, partly
as I failed to recall "the easier way". But done. The starter
got a bit of an oil bath. No harm. The old 6 just keeps "chugging"
a bit like a Jaguar, oozing a bit as it goes....

After a false start buy I got the right one, the item number in this case was JLM9546# for a new cartridge to go inside the 'tin can' unit. Remembered late that while the body is a 1974 car the engine (obtained separately) was from a 1973 donor so sported the earlier cartridge model.
