Aquired my first jaguar in 1996 when I was 53 years old. I have three now and have never sold one.Being 78 years old now means that I doubt that I'll get any more, although spare parts seem to keep finding their way to my store! Alec G.
Bought my first Jag when I was 31. It was a 1968 XKE S 1 1/2 coupe which i kept for 30 years. During that time I managed to squeeze in an XJ6 S1, An 84 and 85 XJ6 SIII, and a 91 XJS. I've been without a Jag now for the last 6 years since my move to Hawaii, but I'll be getting my 1984 XJ6 back in a couple of months.
I'm 71. I wanted an E-type since 1971, finally bought a Series 3 roadster in about 1998. Subsequently added a '86 S3 XJ6 and a '96 X305 XJ12. All fine cars. I'm now in the middle of adding fuel injection pulled from a XJS to the XKE. I've had enough carburetors in my life.
This is a nice picture. The hardtop is fit, actually quite a good snow car. You will note I also added powered side mirrors from a XJ6 and unseen power window lifts, intermittent wipers, a great Nakamichi sound system and a Tremac 5 speed transmission. The EFI addition will complete the car. Definitely not concours, but a great daily driver.
Let's put it this way. I learnt to drive on a 1963 Jaguar Mk2 when it was 6 years old. And you can start driving a car in the UK at age 17. And that Mk2 is presently sitting in my workshop waiting for my attention, so I'd better dash off.
You may have to add the cams to a fuel injected model. The shop I worked for installed a carbed XKE into a fuel injected XJ12. Cams couldn't breath and added air inlets had to be made before it would idle. Then the ecu had to be modified. Good luck.
about to turn 72, four jags since 1998. long-time Volvo driver but always wanted a Jag and finally bought an 89 xj40 to start the addiction. previous ones were the 89 cxj40, followed by an 97 x300L, then an 06 VDP and now enjoying an 03 VDP.
My one and only Jaguar. The 83 XJ6 came in mid 2001. Not long after, the engine conked out. After a lot of thinking and research, the lump process began. Legally back on te road in 2006.. Still here.
I've had a lot of cars since my first one in 46.. The Jaguar is amongst the top and possibly #1..
